Xiliu Laoshuan Zoo was personally invested in and built by private entrepreneur Zhao Zhengshuan. Ever since childhood, Zhao has had a deep love for animals. After achieving some success in business, he began investing heavily in purchasing and raising various animals such as birds and beasts. As the variety and number of animals he owned continued to grow, a fairly large family-run zoo gradually took shape in his own yard, attracting many visitors. Later, he further expanded the family zoo into a formal zoo. The Xiliu Town government also allocated him a piece of barren land covering an area of 7,500 square meters near the clothing market, allowing him to use it free of charge for building the zoo. In September 1998, construction of Laoshuan Zoo officially began. After more than a year of intensive building and preparation, the first phase of the zoo, covering an area of 1,800 square meters and with an investment of 1.97 million yuan, was fully completed and put into use. On October 24, 1999, Laoshuan Zoo officially opened to the public.

Currently, the zoo is home to over 30 types of animals, including peacocks, red-crowned cranes, ostriches, brown bears, wolves, sika deer, monkeys, and more, totaling more than 130 individuals. All these animals were purchased with Zhao Zhengshuan’s personal investment. The zoo environment is elegant and kept clean and hygienic. Every day, it attracts a large number of visitors from Xiliu Town, Haicheng City, as well as tourists who come to shop in Xiliu.

Xiliu Town: Located in the southern part of Liaoning Province, Xiliu Town sits at the center of the urban agglomeration comprising Shenyang, Dalian, Anshan, and Yingkou, and is 10 kilometers away from downtown Haicheng. It was upgraded from a township to a town in August 1984. The town covers a total area of 64.12 square kilometers, with a permanent population of 37,000, a temporary resident population of nearly 50,000, and a daily floating population of 100,000.

Xiliu Town enjoys extremely convenient transportation. The Shen-Da Expressway, known as the “No. 1 Road under Heaven,” runs through the town and has a “Xiliu Station,” making access very easy.
