Yulin Watermelon
Yulin Watermelon is a specialty of Ruoheng Town, Wenling City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. With its uniquely beautiful shape, vibrant red flesh, crisp texture, and sweet taste, Yulin Watermelon is renowned both domestically and internationally.
Yulin Watermelon is one of the four major agricultural product brands of Wenling, mainly produced in Ruoheng Town. In 1999, the Ruoheng Town People's Government funded an application to the State Administration for Industry and Commerce to register the “Yulin” trademark, and successfully held the 2000’ Zhejiang Wenling Ruoheng (Shanghai) “Yulin” Watermelon Press Conference in Shanghai. The fame of Yulin Watermelon quickly rose, gaining prestige both within and outside the province, especially becoming extremely popular in cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Fuzhou, Hangzhou, and Ningbo. It became a well-known premium and branded watermelon in Zhejiang Province, while also earning attention and praise from domestic watermelon experts.
Yulin Watermelon is favored by consumers for its attractive appearance—round shape, striped rind with light green background covered in dark green lines, moderate size (3kg–4kg per fruit), thin skin, good cross-section, fine texture, crisp mouthfeel, red juicy flesh, central sugar content of 11.5%–12.8%, small sugar gradient, and excellent flavor. With great marketability, it has become a fashionable gift people give to family and friends.
Currently, the planting area of “Yulin” Watermelon in Wenling reaches 80,000 mu annually, helping a large number of villagers achieve prosperity through watermelon farming. In 2001, it was named a Zhejiang Provincial Famous Product. In 2003, the “Yulin” trademark was awarded the title of Zhejiang Provincial Famous Trademark, and in 2004, it was recognized as one of the “Top Ten Most Beloved Branded Agricultural Products by Citizens” at the provincial agricultural exposition.
