The Xibaozi Site in Gaizhou

The Xibaozi Site in Gaizhou is a cultural heritage protection unit designated by Yingkou City.

The Xibaozi Site is located in Xibaozi Village, XichaoYang Village, Wanfu Town, Gaizhou City. It sits on a raised terrace at the confluence of two rivers, 500 meters south of the Biliu River and west of the Xisha River.

The site features flat terrain, encircled by mountains and located in the center of a basin, with local homes built over the archaeological remains. Since ancient times, it has been a prime location for human habitation. The site spans 200 meters from east to west and 160 meters from north to south, covering an area of 32,000 square meters. The cultural layer is approximately 1 meter below the surface, with varying thickness ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 meters. Artifacts found at the site include red sand-tempered pottery shards, reddish-brown sand-tempered pottery shards, brown sand-tempered pottery shards, and fired clay pieces, with incised pottery fragments being the most common, followed by plain-surfaced ones. Stone tools such as polished arrowheads and club-like stone implements have also been discovered, indicating that the site likely dates back to the late Neolithic period.

In 1984, the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng Fa [1984] No. 108) designated the Xibaozi Site as a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit. The protected area and construction control zone, as announced by the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng Fa [1990] No. 38), are as follows: the site itself is the center, with a 50-meter radius designated as the protected area, and a 100-meter buffer beyond that classified as a Category II construction control zone.
