Sandaohe Stone Shed Cluster

The Sandaohe Stone Shed Cluster is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level by Yingkou City.

The Sandaohe Stone Shed Cluster is located in Sandaohe Village, Jiuzhai Town, Gaizhou City. It is also locally known as the Huojia'wopu Stone Shed. During an archaeological survey in 1987, more than 20 remnants were discovered.

The stone sheds are all arranged along a north-south oriented ridge and its sun-facing slopes to the north of Huojia'wopu. Most of the stone sheds are in poor condition, having nearly collapsed or fallen down. Artifacts unearthed include stone axes, jade chisels, pottery jars, pots, as well as pottery fragments and perforated stone knives. At one relatively well-preserved stone shed, the surrounding wall stones and base slab can still be seen. Its capstone is oval-shaped, and artifacts such as stone axes, stone chisels, stone knives, pottery jars, and charred human bones were excavated. This cluster of stone sheds was likely built in the late Neolithic period and belongs to the region’s “megalithic culture” remains.

In 1990, the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng Fa [1990] No. 38) designated the Sandaohe Stone Shed Cluster as a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit. The published scope of protection and construction control zone includes: a 20-meter radius around each individual stone shed and stone slab tomb as the protected area; an additional 100-meter buffer extending outward forms the Class V construction control zone, maintaining the original terrain and landforms.
