The Remains of the Horse-Retaining Wall

The remains of the Horse-Retaining Wall are a cultural relic protection unit of Yingkou City.

The remains of the Horse-Retaining Wall are located on the northern ridge of Longdong Mountain in Sandaohe Village, Jiuzhai Town, Gaizhou City. They form a rectangular shape, with most of the wall structure already damaged and scattered stones lying around the site.

This site has surviving sections on both the southern and northern ridges of Waizi Back Mountain, generally forming a long strip. The southern section is about 120 meters long in total, and the northern section is about 300 meters long. The wall is about 1.5 meters wide, with the highest remaining part reaching approximately 2 meters. Although no pottery shards or other specimens have been found, based on the degree of weathering of the stone wall and local oral accounts, it is preliminarily determined to have been built during the Goguryeo period. It represents a typical mountain fortress of the Goguryeo era and holds historical value.

In 2012, the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng [2012] No. 173) designated the remains of the Horse-Retaining Wall as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit. The cultural relic protection scope and construction control zone announced by the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng [2013] No. 185) are as follows: with the base of the Horse-Retaining Wall ruins as the center point, the protection area extends 50 meters east, west, south, and north; the Class I construction control zone extends an additional 100 meters east, west, south, and north beyond the protection area.
