Soong Ching Ling Children's Science and Technology Museum
The Soong Ching Ling Children's Science and Technology Museum is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
The Soong Ching Ling Children's Science and Technology Museum is located on the southern shore of Bayi Lake in the picturesque Yuyuantan area. It was funded by people from all walks of life who admired Soong Ching Ling’s remarkable achievements and cared about the healthy growth of children, and was officially opened on June 1, 1986. The museum covers a construction area of 1,500 square meters, with 8,000 square meters of outdoor activity space. The science and technology exhibition hall displays popular science exhibits, toys, video equipment, and more, donated by friendly groups and individuals from countries such as the United States and Japan. Outdoors, there are various play facilities designed and produced specifically for Chinese children by the Soong Ching Ling Japan Foundation. The museum receives over 80,000 visitors annually. Here, children can immerse themselves in play while being surrounded by a rich atmosphere of scientific knowledge.
In accordance with Soong Ching Ling’s dying wish that “the most precious things should be given to children — that is, creating the best possible conditions for their healthy growth,” and to further enrich children’s lives, broaden their horizons, and help them develop scientific thinking, the Soong Ching Ling Foundation and the Soong Ching Ling Japan Foundation worked together in 1991. With joint investment from the governments of China and Japan, the “Soong Ching Ling Children’s Science Playground” was built. The exhibition hall spans 800 square meters and primarily showcases science and technology exhibits donated by the Soong Ching Ling Japan Foundation, including hydroelectric power, thermal power, nuclear power, and human-powered electricity; fiber optic communication, laser sound transmission, and solar-powered aircraft; as well as a simulated earthquake device. Children can experience the scientific principles of these exhibits firsthand. The hall also features toys suitable for toddlers, allowing them to play and enjoy themselves.
On October 7, 2019, the Soong Ching Ling Children's Science and Technology Museum was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
