Cold and Hot Land Park

Cold and Hot Land Park is located on the southern slope of Baishilā Mountain in Gusaocheng Village, Anping Township, Gongchangling District, Liaoyang City. It stretches approximately 500 meters in length and 20 meters in width, covering an area of about 10,000 square meters. The park follows the natural contour of the mountain, backed by Baishilā Mountain, with the bed of the Tang River just 5 meters in front. It faces the ancient military stockade across the valley and stands about a hundred meters from the ancient Gusaocheng settlement.

The uniqueness of Cold and Hot Land lies in the fact that its freezing and thawing patterns are the exact opposite of the local natural climate and seasonal changes. In the scorching summer heat, icicles form here like jade, giving off a chilling aura, with surface temperatures around -8°C. In the bitter winter cold, however, no snow or ice accumulates, and warm air rises from the ground, with surface temperatures around 11°C. Delicate green grass can even be seen sprouting in the crevices of the rocks.

Geological experts from both China and abroad have conducted multiple field investigations and research in the Liaoyang Cold and Hot Land Scenic Area. Although there are various theories about this remarkable geological phenomenon, a definitive and reasonable explanation for this unusual geographical occurrence remains elusive. The Cold and Hot Land phenomenon continues to be one of nature’s unsolved mysteries.

Anping Township: Anping Township is located between 123°2′–123°35′ east longitude and 40°46′–41°39′ north latitude. Shen Ring Highway runs through the township, providing convenient transportation. It stretches 75 Chinese miles from north to south, covering a total area of 102 square kilometers. The township comprises 14 villages, 49 villager groups, 3,996 households, and a population of 11,398. The total forested area spans 99,097 mu, while cultivated land covers 11,655 mu.
