Taiwan passport is so powerful again—5 more visa-free countries added, total now 153

Five more countries have been added to Taiwan’s visa-free (or visa-on-arrival) list. On the 7th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Liberia, and Djibouti are now accessible to Taiwanese travelers via visa on arrival, while Gabon has opened its doors to Taiwanese visitors through electronic visas. As a result, the total number of countries and territories where Taiwanese can travel without a visa (or with visa on arrival) has increased from 148 to 153.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the application methods for visa on arrival and e-visas in these countries are as follows:

Kazakhstan:Holders of a Republic of China ordinary passport valid for at least six months, a return (or onward) flight ticket, and an invitation letter approved by the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs can choose to enter through one of five cities: Almaty, Astana, Aktau, Atyrau, or Uralsk. After paying an 80 USD visa fee, they will be issued a single-entry tourist or business visa on arrival, allowing a maximum stay of 30 days.

Tajikistan:Taiwanese travelers need to hold a Republic of China ordinary passport valid for at least six months, a return (or onward) flight ticket, two photos (standard passport size 3.5 x 4.5 cm), a copy of their passport, fill out a visa application form upon arrival, and pay a 35 USD visa fee to receive a visa on arrival valid for up to 45 days.

Liberia:Travelers must email a scanned copy of the biographical page of their Republic of China passport (valid for at least six months) that includes their ID number to taiwanvisaapp@mofa.gov.lr at least seven days before departure. Upon arrival at the Liberian airport, complete a visa application form and pay a 100 USD visa fee to receive a visa valid for a stay of 7–30 days.

Djibouti:With a Republic of China passport valid for at least six months, a round-trip flight ticket, and hotel reservation records, travelers can apply for a single-entry visa on arrival upon reaching Djibouti, with a 1-month stay allowed for a fee of 90 USD per entry. Stays exceeding one month incur a fee of 120 USD.

Gabon:In addition to holding a Republic of China passport valid for at least six months, Taiwanese travelers must obtain an entry permit in advance from Gabon’s Directorate General of Immigration (DGDI) via its electronic system. They must also carry a round-trip or onward ticket to a third country, hotel reservation records (or an invitation letter). Upon arrival, they can then apply for a 3-month visa on arrival for a fee of 70 EUR per entry. Failure to bring the required documents may result in being denied entry into Gabon.

Additionally, due to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in West Africa, Gabon has suspended entry and transit for travelers arriving from Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Travelers are advised to take note.
