On holidays, I tend to sleep in a bit later. When unsure whether to go for breakfast or lunch, it’s easier to just grab brunch and kill two birds with one stone. Recently, I spotted a new brunch place in downtown Taoyuan online and decided to check it out while I had the chance.
The restaurant is easy to find, located near the intersection of Zhongshan Road and Sanmin Road, not far from Nanmen Market. There are roadside parking spots outside or several nearby parking lots.

The restaurant doesn’t look very wide from the outside, and there’s no eye-catching big sign at the entrance, but the floor-to-ceiling windows give off an artful display-window vibe, making the space feel bright and spacious.

As soon as you walk in, you’ll see these two special window-side seats, seemingly reserved for VIPs or the owner themselves.

The dining space is long and narrow, with not too many seats. The combination of light beige walls, wooden tables and chairs, and warm lighting creates a cozy and comfortable atmosphere.

The handwritten menu board above the counter offers a variety of coffee options—probably the owner’s pride. Don’t forget to order a cup here and enjoy the owner’s brewed coffee.

The fridge only has some sparkling water and milk oatmeal, looking a bit empty—maybe it’s too early and they haven’t restocked yet. The bookshelf nearby has plenty of magazines and books, making it a great spot for a solo drink or meal, with something to read to pass the time.

Simple wall decorations feature a few photo collages of black-and-white images from famous travel destinations around the world, adding a nice touch.

Dining in front of these large photos feels as relaxed as sitting by a street in Europe—perfect for chatting with friends or passing the time alone.

The first page of the MENU emphasizes using mostly organic ingredients to promote healthy eating, with all dishes handmade on the spot—so there may be a short wait for your meal. The minimum spend per person is NT$80, but most items will exceed that. No service charge is charged, which is a nice plus, and free Wi-Fi is available.

Along with the main course, brunch options come with sides like vegetables, drinks, oatmeal, and seasonal roasted veggies. Burgers come with fries by default, or upgrade to a set meal for NT$59 more, which includes an organic salad and a drink.

Since brunch is the focus, there are many burger and sandwich options, plus Italian pasta choices—definitely coming back to try those next time.

The coffee here is also pretty good. Coffee lovers, don’t forget to order a rich cup of coffee with your meal.

Organic Vegetable Salad
Fresh greens paired with fruits and a boiled egg slice make this nutritionally packed. Sauce options include (Thousand Island, Yuzu Japanese style, and Italian vinaigrette). The homemade Thousand Island sauce, based on sesame, really elevates the veggies—the fresh taste is noticeable with every bite.

Drinks
The meal comes with black tea or Americano by default. I wasn’t planning to have more coffee, but the owner insisted I try one—and the iced Americano was indeed smooth and aromatic, instantly refreshing.

Mexican Spicy Chicken Leg Burger $150
The thick chicken leg patty makes the burger rise high, paired with plenty of vibrant green lettuce. The fries are hand-cut, varying in size. A paper bag is provided for easy handheld eating.

The layered ingredients make every bite feel rich and satisfying.

The burger is loaded with toppings—the chicken leg is cooked to about medium-rare, still juicy with no dryness.

The homemade sauce is perfectly balanced, and the addition of Mexican chili adds a zesty kick. The freshness of the ingredients shows the care the owner puts into selection.

The irregularly cut fries offer a unique texture—hot, crispy, freshly made, tasty and healthy.

Mattina Special Set $260
As a brunch must-try, I ordered this one. It comes with a hot dog, poached egg, and seasonal roasted veggies—super filling, enough to power through the whole day.

Healthy Oatmeal
The homemade milk oatmeal is a perfect healthy ending to the meal—truly delightful.

Mattina Brunch is located in a spot I wouldn’t normally notice, but after just one visit, you can really feel the owner’s care in selecting ingredients and the effort put into running the place. Though it lacks a standout theme, it makes up for it with healthy and delicious food. Next time I might try their pasta. It’s the kind of restaurant that brings you back, and I’d recommend it to anyone in the Taoyuan area who loves good food.
