The 2018 Flower Expo was held in Taichung. To build up the atmosphere in advance, the Taichung City Tun District Cultural and Arts Center held the grand “Umbrellas Brighten the Flower Expo, Shine on Taichung” installation art exhibition from October 15 to December 17. Free admission. This year’s theme centers around umbrellas, with flowers as a supporting element, and collaborates with local umbrella companies to create seven installation artworks that offer different appearances during the day and night.

Upon entering, you’ll see the “Autumn Sunflower Garden,” which uses four green pillars resembling plant stems, each adorned with cute roses, topped with yellow umbrellas that look like blooming sunflowers. Different angles create varied photo effects, and each exhibition area features nighttime LED lighting changes, making the daytime and nighttime scenes completely distinct.

Walking further inside, you’ll encounter the “Colorful Floral Splendor,” where trees are hung with yellow and red umbrellas, resembling blossoming flowers, which become even more beautiful at night. On the ground, there are also pink flower displays that burst with femininity, along with lace umbrella installations that are so dreamy they’ll make you feel like you’re in a bubble of pink. Next to the staircase, there’s also a landscaped scene inspired by the immortal musical film “The Band Wagon,” featuring the classic scene of a solo song and dance in the rain.

Stepping into the Tun District Cultural and Arts Center, look up to see umbrellas decorating the ceiling—colorful, layered designs, some shaped like flowers, allowing you to feel the vibe of spring blooms even in winter. Some umbrellas showcase creativity, such as Van Gogh’s paintings reimagined on umbrella canvases. Outside, the concrete wall of a performance hall is also decorated with umbrellas. The “Dotted Floral Scents” installation adds lively colors to the otherwise cold concrete, lifting your mood.
