Fall in love with Taiwan！Hong Kong boy’s island-round short film wins top prize, kicking off a new life of traveling the world

Do you still remember Hong Kong boyAndy Kong Chun-yinwho fell in love with Taiwan and traveled around the island filming a video to participate in a tourism bureau competition? He recently won the grand prize in the “Unlimited Taiwan Travel – Global Online Video Contest,” jointly organized by the Tourism Bureau and Google. The prize was a round-the-world plane ticket, and Andy excitedly exclaimed on Facebook that his “dream has come true.”

In August 2014, by a stroke of fate, he came across the Anytime For Taiwan submission contest, which just happened to align with his three dreams: traveling around Taiwan, traveling around the world, and becoming a travel show host. After preparing for a month by practicing shooting and editing, he packed his bags and came to Taiwan to begin a four-week island-round filming journey. He visited Taichung, Qingjing, Alishan, Sun Moon Lake, Puli, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Kenting, Green Island, Hualien, Penghu, and Taipei, feeling a unique and profound sense of human connection everywhere. Capturing Taiwan’s beautiful scenery and warm-hearted people, Andy edited it all into a 3.5-minute short film to introduce Taiwan to the world. Andy said, “Taiwan’s hospitality will create unique memories for you.”

Regarding winning the round-the-world plane ticket, Andy could hardly contain his excitement. He also revealed that although he hasn’t planned the itinerary yet, he expects to be away for about six months to a year. He wants to visit Machu Picchu in Peru, the Brazilian Carnival in Brazil, Argentina, as well as other places such as witnessing the Great Migration in East Africa, seeing the pyramids in Egypt, visiting the Taj Mahal in India, exploring the Devil’s Pool at Victoria Falls in Africa, and seeing the Northern Lights in the Arctic—places Andy has long dreamed of visiting.

Having a special fondness for Taiwan, Andy said he heard that people from small islands are warmer and the places are more pristine. He also hopes to visit Orchid Island, Kinmen, and Matsu in the future, and he wants to learn scuba diving in Taiwan. Now that his dreams seem to have all come true, but through this opportunity to travel around the world, he still plans to continue sharing his experiences and perspectives along the journey with everyone, and keep pursuing his dream of being a travel show host in various parts of the world.
