ITF Travel Fair / Okinawa Taiko Drum Performance Showcases Classic World-Class Folk Performance

On the second day of the 2015 ITF Taipei International Travel Fair, the venue was packed with visitors, and the main stage performances remained highly anticipated, featuring a total of 51 acts. Among them, Okinawa’s “Okinawa Taiko Drum Performance” was full of energy and liveliness, blending with traditional festivals and cultural memories. The performance was deeply moving and attracted many attendees.

The “Okinawa Taiko Drum Performance,” presented by the Okinawa Visitors & Convention Bureau, was powerful and dynamic. Taiko drumming is a traditional folk art form in Okinawa, typically performed with large and small taiko drums. Around the time of the Obon Festival, performances are held at various festivals across Okinawa’s main island and surrounding islands, featuring dancing and parades. The show began with a dance performance, followed by taiko drumming, and concluded with a traditional Okinawan lion dance, offering a spectacular display of folk artistry.

The Okinawa booth at this travel fair adopted a simple yet elegant style, with imagery of Okinawa’s proud, beautiful ocean visible in the background. In recent years, Okinawa has actively promoted tourism, with self-drive tours, shopping, and marine activities as key highlights. Recently, it has also been promoting church weddings in Okinawa, aiming to attract more visitors from Taiwan.
