It boasts Taiwan’s largest area of primeval forest, rich in precious ecological resources such as the Formosan lady’s slipper orchid, Formosan azalea, and Formosan serow — all valuable treasures of nature. The sea of clouds and the stunning pure coniferous forests of Taiwan hemlock on Beidawushan are also major draws for hiking enthusiasts.

As autumn deepens and the chill sets in, Beidawushan sees a constant stream of visitors, especially during weekends and holidays. It boasts Taiwan’s largest area of primeval forest, rich in precious ecological resources such as the Formosan lady’s slipper orchid, Formosan azalea, and Formosan serow — all valuable treasures of nature.The sea of clouds and the stunning pure coniferous forests of Taiwan hemlock on Beidawushan are also major draws for hiking enthusiasts.

Among the national hiking trails managed by the Pingtung Forest District Office, Chaozhou Work Station,the most representative “Beidawushan National Trail”is located on the western ridge of the Central Mountain Range, east of the Pingtung Plain. The local Paiwan indigenous people regard Beidawushan as a sacred mountain, listing it as one of Taiwan’s Five Great Mountains. It stands majestically, guarding southern Taiwan and serving as a strong barrier against typhoons.

The Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, Forestry Bureau states that the Beidawushan National Trail is rugged and unlike typical hiking routes. Those planning to go should train in advance andseek guides, team leaders, or high-altitude support staff familiar with the local terrain and climate for assistance,as well as prepare the necessary gear and hiking plans.
