379 ping (approx. 1,254 m²)! Cathay Pacific unveils Taoyuan Airport’s largest premium lounge with bartender service and made-to-order beef noodles

After more than four months of renovation, Cathay Pacific’s premium lounge in Terminal 1 of Taoyuan Airport officially opened to the public today (November 11). Spanning 379 ping, the lounge has become the largest single premium lounge at Taoyuan Airport. In addition to offering rest areas and freshly mixed alcoholic beverages, it also serves authentic Taiwanese snacks such as pork rice and bubble tea. Located on the fourth floor of Terminal 1, the Cathay Pacific lounge is about a three-minute walk from Gates B6 and B7, with a maximum capacity of 245 people. The lounge was designed by London-based design firm Studioilse, led by Ilse Crawford. It features extensive use of raw wood, stone, and copper materials, paired with specially designed lighting to create a simple yet warm environment. The Solo Chair, equipped with high backs, coffee tables, reading lights, and coat hooks, is also the first private space design introduced by Cathay Pacific, making it truly distinctive.

The lounge is a long space, where the initial tasting area offers light meals; the business zone includes five MAC computers with integrated business functions for passengers to use. In the flavor section, there are bar tables, long tables, and dining tables, combining simplicity with retro dining ambiance, where passengers can order dishes such as shrimp wonton soup noodles, Northern-style dan dan noodles, and Taiwanese gua bao.

Chef Wong Wai-kan, who came specially from Hong Kong to Taiwan, said that the Hong Kong-style dim sum in the flavor section are all made using recipes adjusted by chefs from Hong Kong, delivering an authentic Hong Kong taste. As for the Taiwanese-style beef noodles, they use Australian beef shin meat braised for over six hours, paired with beef bone broth, making it the most iconic dish in the Cathay Pacific lounge—definitely a must-try.

Wong added that open flames are not allowed in the airport’s restricted area, so electric stoves are used to cook the dishes, which requires even more precise heat control. Additionally, considering passengers’ comfort after boarding, all served dishes are boneless and non-spicy, allowing guests to adjust seasoning themselves. Besides current offerings, the lounge rotates its menu every ten days, and in the future, passengers may have the chance to enjoy dishes such as pasta, congee, pancakes, and stir-fried rice noodles.

For passengers who enjoy a drink before boarding, Cathay has moved beyond the traditional “self-service” beverage bar and instead introduced a live bartending setup. Passengers can order a hand-shaken bubble tea and wait for their flight in the sofa area, or enjoy a Mojito while chatting with the bartender, turning the airport lounge into another relaxing bar. Cathay Pacific’s Deputy General Manager of Passenger Services, Chu Mei-yu, stated that four key elements—cherry wood, bronze, brass, and limestone—are the foundational materials of the lounge. The wood used in the lounge is Japanese cherry wood, processed using a special seven-layer technique, while the floor tiles are made of limestone, exuding a natural texture. Meanwhile, the coffee tables in the rest area and the dessert cabinets in the dining section are made of bronze, which was airlifted from Japan and assembled in Taiwan. The bar counter in the beverage area is made entirely of brass, adding a bold presence.

Different spaces within the lounge also display artworks by artists such as Hong Yi-zhen, Wu Shao-ying, and Yao Rui-zhong. Chu Mei-yu mentioned that although the lounge overall creates a minimalist, home-like atmosphere, small details such as materials, paintings, and decor still reveal its luxurious touches.

At today’s opening ceremony, Yang Wei-tien, General Manager of Cathay Pacific / Dragonair Taiwan and Korea region, said in his speech that Cathay has recently updated its corporate image, and these new elements have been integrated into the new lounge. He hopes the warm feeling of the new lounge will bring a fresh experience to travelers.
