Has the Great Buddha of Bagua Mountain moved? Taiwan’s first “Clay Sculpture Art Festival” debuts in Changhua

The Taiwan Clay Sculpture Art Festival will be held from November 27 to December 6 next to the high-speed rail station in Tianzhong, Changhua. This is also the first time in Taiwan that local clay from Tianzhong has been used to create over 10 large-scale clay sculpture artworks.

Xie Wenxian, mayor of Tianzhong Township, pointed out that in addition to showcasing large clay sculptures, there will also be family-friendly DIY toy painting, handmade wood-fired specialty bread, clay sculpture DIY workshops, artist meet-and-greets, and pottery wheel experiences during weekends and high-speed rail operating days.

Xie Wenxian stated that these clay sculpture works were created on-site in the fields by master ceramic artist Ye Zhicheng from Tianzhong Kiln and Wang Songguan, chairman of the Taiwan Sand Sculpture Association, who crafted each large sculpture together.

Changhua County Deputy Magistrate Zhou Zhizhong said that the establishment of the Tianzhong High-Speed Rail Station in Changhua not only brings people closer together but also enhances geographical and transportation convenience. Tianzhong offers attractive clay sculpture exhibitions, delicious pastries, great souvenirs to buy, and fun-filled clay sculpture DIY activities.
