For many travelers, the Otaru Canal is a must-visit spot when exploring Hokkaido. The exotic streets and the canal complement each other, giving Otaru a unique charm. In addition to the daytime street scenes, the 2015 Otaru Snow Light Path officially lit up this evening (November 21). During the event period, romantic blue lights will be illuminated along both sides of the canal, alongside the original gas lamps and cruise ship decorations, making the Otaru Canal even more dazzling at night.

On the evening of the 21st, under the countdown of the crowd and a choir, the Otaru Snow Light Path was officially illuminated. This year’s Snow Light Path runs from November 21 to February 14, 2016. Compared to the usual nights in Otaru, the canal lit with snow lights becomes even more romantic and tender, presenting a different look from the daytime. Local residents also mentioned that the snow light event period coincides with the snowy season. When the snow covers the canal and the surrounding warehouses and streets, transforming the area into a white world, coupled with the lighting effects, it creates an unforgettable scenic view. The city will also roll out a series of winter-themed tourism activities, and visitors are encouraged to come and experience it firsthand during this time.
