Just check in by yourself when you arrive—staff-free hotels in Germany are all the rage.

While Japan is actively testing robot-assisted hotel check-ins, Germany has already seen hotel operators break away from tradition by letting guests check themselves in.

According to Lonely Planet,the Munich-based Buddy Hotel allows guests to book, check in, and check out without any face-to-face interaction with hotel staff. Payment is also straightforward, done via a cloud system on the hotel’s mobile management platform.

This unique approach helps keep the hotel’s prices low in central Munich, offering tech-savvy travelers a more affordable lodging option.

The hotel has 75 rooms. Guests can check in online beforehand, and upon arrival, they only need to log in using the tablet at the front desk to receive their room key card. The idea is similar to self-check-in at airports—saving time by skipping the queue.
