“Excuse me, where can I find local snacks?” “Excuse me, where can I buy souvenirs?” “Excuse me, where’s the restroom?” To help travelers solve common problems on the road,the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has partnered with public and private organizations to launch 115 Q&A stations across Taiwan. These stations provide free travel assistance in neighborhoods and streets, along with free Wi-Fi, route guidance, and even recommendations for the most authentic local snacks,ensuring you’ll never get lost in Taiwan while enjoying its warmest hospitality.

Tsai Ming-ling, director-general of the Tourism Bureau, stated,“Q&A stations have become a window for independent travelers to engage with local culture”and a starting point for international visitors to discover Taiwan’s unique charm. Locals are the best ambassadors for showcasing the region’s culture and lifestyle, offering travelers an emotionally rich and warm experience.
With no limits to questions or answers, 115 diverse businesses have voluntarily joined the Q&A station network, providing free assistance, directions, and Wi-Fi—even access to restrooms and water—demonstrating Taiwan’s heartfelt hospitality. The Tourism Bureau noted that while no subsidies were given to participating businesses, it deeply appreciates their enthusiasm and recognizesthat Taiwan’s greatest asset is its warmth and human connection.。

To expand the impact of Q&A stations, in 2016 (105 in Taiwan’s calendar), efforts will continue to collaborate with private industries to promote more stations. Public and private organizations are also invited to join the network, with the goal of surpassing 200 stations next year.
To attract travelers to experience this smart and friendly tourism service, the Tourism Bureau held an online voting campaign and check-in challenge for the 2015 Best Q&A Station Managers. Winners were selected in five categories: “Most Unique,” “Most Enthusiastic,” “Most Friendly,” “Most Professional,” and “Most Thoughtful.” The honors went to five Q&A stations: “HOK Guo Yuan Yi’s Home, Wei Yi Food Store, Taiwan Hao Store, A Du’s Shop, and Bu Er Tang Tea House,” each winning their respective category.

Liu Kai-fen (Milk) from Pingtung Donggang’s “Wei Yi Food Store,” which won the highest popularity and “Most Enthusiastic” awards, shared: “Travel should go deeper into the local culture.” Since joining the Q&A network, “we often approach customers who peek outside!” Joanne from Taipei Yongkang Street’s “Bu Er Tang Tea House,” which won the “Most Thoughtful” award, said: “Besides offering free Wi-Fi, we’ll even Google travel routes or suggest the best transport options for guests—treating them like traveling friends.” Bu Er Tang also serves hot tea, adding a personal touch. Meanwhile, staff at “A Du’s Shop” in Taitung Luye, which won “Most Professional,” proudly noted: “Our bike culture tours attract many visitors from Japan, Hong Kong, and even China—some come specifically because they’ve heard of us!”
