Taoyuan Airport Enters a Dark Period for Flights as North Runway Testing Begins on the 7th – Temporary Morning Closure

Taoyuan Airport’s north runway is nearing completion, with the goal of full operation by the 25th. A series of test flights will be conducted starting on the 7th, with the airport temporarily closed during certain periods, causing the airport—which is currently operating with only one runway—to enter a brief “takeoff and landing dark period.” The Taoyuan Airport Corporation also stated that some flights may be advanced or delayed, and travelers planning to depart during this time are advised to pay close attention to flight information.

According to the Taoyuan Airport Corporation,the north runway testing will be carried out in two phases. The first phase runs from the 7th to the 11th, and the second phase from the 14th to the 18th, with tests taking place daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. During these periods, the Civil Aeronautics Administration will conduct verification flights while also testing the accuracy of runway navigation and guidance instruments.

Among these, the morning test phase will have the most significant impact on takeoffs and landings at Taoyuan Airport. Becausethe airport will be temporarily closed from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM, with all flight operations suspended, allowing only the Civil Aeronautics Administration’s verification aircraft to fly solo circuits for more challenging “reverse test flights,”departing flights must therefore take off before 6:30 AM. If unable to do so, they must be postponed until after 7:30 AM.Therefore, travelers planning to depart during this period should stay updated on any advance or delay notices from their airlines.
