Christmas Must-Visit in Hong Kong’s Central District: 50,000 LED Lights Create Bulgari’s Spectacular "Serpenti"

Christmas may still be a few weeks away, but the festive atmosphere is already in full swing on the streets of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Tourism Board has teamed up with Italian luxury jeweler BVLGARI to host“Starlit Winter: Celebrate a BVLGARI Roman Holiday”event, where the star-studded evening saw actress Carina Lau personally inaugurate the lighting ceremony, capturing the magical moment for the main "Serpenti" snake-shaped light installation.

The "Starlit Winter" event runs from December 4 to January 1 of next year — a 29-day celebration featuring a ten-meter-tall Christmas tree and cabin installations, but the highlight is the nearly 14-meter-high Serpenti snake-shaped light installation. The design process took six months and installation spanned two months.Crafted from 50,000 LED lights, this snake-shaped art installation features an intricately streamlined design. At night, a vibrant, shimmering serpent coils through the air, shifting colors in sync with the music, illuminating Hong Kong’s skyline.。
The Serpenti light installation, which has previously traveled to cities including New York, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, and Taiwan, arrives at its sixth stop this year in the heart of Central at Statue Square. The venue’s floor is designed with a magical night-sky motif, where the enchanting serpent glows among the Serpenti constellations. Visitors can stroll through BVLGARI-themed constellation displays and Conditt Street, immersing themselves in a festive international Christmas ambiance.

BVLGARI explains that in ancient Greek and Roman times, the snake was regarded as a sacred and mystical creature, often used as a decorative motif. The Greeks believed the snake symbolized wisdom; in Egypt, it represented the wisdom of King Solomon; while in the East, it held meanings of sacredness and good fortune. In the early 20th century, many brands drew inspiration from the snake, but BVLGARI was the first to incorporate it into watch designs. By the 1960s and 70s, the snake-inspired Serpenti collection had become one of the brand’s iconic designs.

Beyond admiring the Italian-style Christmas lights, visitors can enjoy traditional Italian candy Confetti and rich hot chocolate with family and friends at surrounding stalls, adding warmth to the cold winter days. There’s also a photo booth where you can capture joyful moments and have them printed instantly as keepsakes. All proceeds from the stalls will be donated to "Save the Children," allowing everyone to spread holiday cheer while supporting those in need.
