A Brilliant Christmas Season: 8 Stunning Light Zones in Tainan Shine Brighter at Night

With the main light-up ceremony held at the National Museum of Taiwan Literature on December 6, where the atmosphere was dazzling and vibrant, the 2015 Tainan Christmas Light Festival officially kicked off.This year, the Tainan City Tourism Bureau has transformed the entire historic city into a grand Christmas lights extravaganza, collaborating with National University of Tainan, Kunshan University of Technology, and Tainan University of Technology to plan four major light zones.

The four major light zones are as follows:

1. Front Plaza of the National Museum of Taiwan Literature — Theme: White Veil Holy Night
The letter W in white stands for Wonderful. Located near the bridal district, designers from the Department of Visual Arts and Design at National University of Tainan used pure white to symbolize the happiness of a wedding dress, creating a one-of-a-kind white Christmas tree representing happiness.

2. Xinying Cultural Center Plaza — Theme: Red Rhapsody
Red is the first color that evokes passion. Using the heartbeat and the enthusiasm of Tainan people as the concept, an interactive approach allows people to communicate with the Christmas tree through sound, making the tree’s lights change colors and twinkle. The lighting ceremony will be held at Xinying Cultural Center at 6 PM on December 11.

3. Roundabout at Tainan Railway Station — Theme: Green Tribute
The letter G in green symbolizes Grateful joy. It features a black-faced spoonbill delivering a large gift box shaped like a stained glass window, representing full blessings as a gift, wishing for peace and happiness in the new year.

4. Anping Recreational Wharf — Theme: Blue Sea Love Song
A blue heart symbolizes the attachment of fishermen, travelers, and lovers who come and go through Anping to the sea. The yellow light sphere at the top of the tree is like a lighthouse, warm and illuminating people’s hearts.

1. Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Tainan Ximending Store — Love Forever Campaign and Special Exhibition
Themed “Christmas Forest,” it specially collaborates with emerging illustrator Vera to design a Christmas tree character atmosphere installation, adding more color and festive cheer to the venue. This collaboration with the Tainan City Government Social Affairs Bureau, well-known hotels, 32 in-store brands, and renowned illustrators invites the public to sponsor the wishes of underprivileged children, spreading love and warmth to every corner.

2. Tainan Cultural and Creative Park – Big Party
Holding its first-ever Christmas series event – the “Big Party” Green Christmas & Clean Energy Journey, where the main Christmas tree, promotional materials, and lighting decorations all feature eco-friendly elements.

Light zone location: Art & Culture Plaza at the entrance of the Cultural and Creative Park
Event period: December 1, 2015 ~ January 2, 2016

3. Far Eastern Department Store – Santa Claus’s Magical Journey
The Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Chenggong Store will set up an interactive Christmas tree that stands 15 meters tall.

Light zone location: No. 210, Qianfeng Road, Tainan City (first-floor plaza of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Chenggong Store)
Lighting ceremony: December 12, 6:30 PM at the first-floor plaza
Event period: December 1, 2015 ~ January 2, 2016

4. Hulu Pi – Original Color Christmas: Sweet Hulu Pi, Capturing Christmas Spirit
Hulu Pi Natural Ecological Park will feature Guantian-themed sweet light decorations of “Sweet Hulu Pi,” showcasing a Christmas atmosphere.

Light zone location: No. 207, Section 2, Zhongshan Road, Longtian Li, Guantian District, Tainan City (outdoor lawn on the first floor of the natural park)
Event period: December 1, 2015 ~ January 2, 2016
