Known for its abundant water sources and spectacular waterfalls, Wulai boasts not only beautiful scenery but also thriving indigenous cultural and hot spring tourism. Although the area was once severely hit by Typhoon Soudelor, it is now gradually recovering. In addition to viewing the waterfalls, visitors can now enjoy four rare and special experience tours.

I. Wulai Atayal Indigenous Culture
The Hunter School in Wulai offers visitors a chance to experience traditional Atayal village life: besides the customary welcome blessing ceremony, Atayal costume and language lessons, tribal instructors also provide ecological interpretation and hunting skill teachings — from crafting traps to making bows and arrows, they excel at it all. You can also enjoy authentic Atayal cuisine: stone slab barbecue, skewers, and family-style meals, all served with the warmest hospitality. It's also a way to help pass on the Atayal culture.

II. Premium Organic Farm
Tucked away among the mountains of Wulai, at an altitude of about 300 meters, the eco-friendly organic farm “Gaasiyou Organic Farm” grows seasonal, pesticide- and fertilizer-free organic vegetables. Here, you can pick your own produce and experience farm life, as well as take part in various activities such as DIY banana sticky rice and guided farm tours. You can even book special Atayal dishes: Makau-smoked chicken and various family-style meals — definitely making your visit worthwhile.

III. Traditional Atayal Weaving
To preserve the craft of Atayal weaving, since 1996, the Wulai Township Office has offered home economics workshops — “Traditional Weaving” courses — encouraging locals to learn traditional skills. As a result, many talented artisans gradually returned to the community, opening weaving workshops locally, with their works gaining recognition in various exhibitions across the country. Visitors can try their hands at weaving under the guidance of tribal instructors in these workshops, experiencing the wisdom of the Atayal ancestors. The process is not only fun but also allows you to take home handcrafted Atayal artifacts as souvenirs.

IV. Specialty Cuisine & Hot Spring Bathing
Wulai Hot Springs are a type of weak alkaline carbonated spring, known as “Beauty Spring,” with clear, transparent water that is even drinkable. The Wulai area offers a variety of unique hot spring facilities, including indoor bathhouses and open-air rotenburo, allowing visitors to enjoy different styles of hot spring bathing. The bustling Wulai Old Street features a wide range of delicious local foods — from hot spring eggs and kaoliang-flavored sausages to fresh produce from small farms — providing a rich travel experience that welcomes all visitors to Wulai.

The New Taipei City Tourism Bureau, in collaboration with the travel industry and local businesses, has reorganized local tourism resources and launched Wulai’s four signature highlight experience tours along with discounted packages. These allow visitors to explore Atayal culture and indigenous life, visit the Hunter School and specialty small-farm organic farms, or engage in traditional Atayal handicraft weaving. A variety of themed tours are available, where guests can also savor local indigenous specialties such as DIY bamboo tube rice or banana rice, Atayal skewers, stone slab barbecue, or Makau-flavored meals. Moreover, don’t miss attractions like Wulai Waterfall, the Atayal Museum, and the Forestry Life Museum, all complemented by excellent guided tours. Finally, explore the waterfall and Wulai Old Street commercial area to shop for unique souvenirs. This one-day tour gives visitors a complete taste of Wulai’s beauty.
