New Year’s Day is just around the corner！ According to the Central Weather Bureau,the first sunrise on Taiwan proper in 2016 will appear at 6:35 a.m. at Sanxiantai in Taitung. To welcome the sunrise, the Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has planned a series of sunrise-welcoming events, including the “On Light Concert,” “I-Lai Market,” and “Shout It Out to the Dawn,” among other exciting activities.

Lin Weiling, deputy director of the Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration, said that apart from inviting the public to Sanxiantai to welcome the sunrise on New Year’s Day, they are also organizinga “Beach Cleanup and Blessing Activity”to pray for the environment through actual beach-cleaning efforts. At the same time, the administration has also prepared a blessing bell on Sanxiantai Island, inviting visitors to write wish cards as a gesture to protect the ocean and care for the environment.

In addition, this year’s event is combined with the “So High Taitung Countdown” and offers limited-edition missions. Participants who collect any two of the event stamps — “So High Taitung Countdown,” “Sanxiantai New Year’s Day Sunrise Welcoming,” or “Sanxiantai Island Beach Cleanup and Blessing” — from the event DM can exchange them for a “Sanxiantai New Year’s Day Limited Edition Amulet” handmade by the Amis people of the Shishan Tribe.

The Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration stated that simply joining the LINE group on-site will get you a limited-edition glow-in-the-dark hand clapper, while checking in on Facebook earns you an L-shaped folder. Two receipts can be exchanged for a limited-edition sunrise postcard, and all receipts collected on-site will be donated in full to the Taitung Family Service Center.
