When booking a trip, don’t just follow the crowd’s recommendations blindly. I was advised to choose one of the nearby islands, and Nusa Lembongan is the closest to Bali. Due to its lack of overdevelopment, the islanders live a simple life, making it a perfect little escape island for “getting away from it all.” Coupled with the nearby marine areas being rarely disturbed, the water is so clear you can see the bottom. Whether you're snorkeling or trying sea walking, you can fully enjoy the stunning underwater views.
This time, I was invited to visit Bali, and during my school break, the local travel agency arranged a one-day trip to Nusa Lembongan for a group of students. When I arrived at Sanur Beach in Bali, I saw many tourists carrying surfboards walking along the beach. The moment I stepped onto the wooden boat that would take me to Nusa Lembongan, I felt the refreshing sea breeze brush against my face for a 10-minute ride, and soon arrived at this “carefree island”—Nusa Lembongan.

The small island of Nusa Lembongan can be circumnavigated by rented scooter in just an hour. On this island, which sees few Asian visitors, you often spot long-stay Western tourists. Most rent motorcycles and spend their days exploring the island, enjoying the tropical sunshine.
The surroundings of Nusa Lembongan are filled with magnificent coral reefs and a variety of marine life, paired with crystal-clear blue waters, making it an ideal spot for water activities. Whether it’s the thrilling banana boat rides, speeding jet skis, or leisurely swimming among colorful corals and fish, travelers can fully enjoy the tropical island vibe.

That day, my first experience was sea walking with Marine Walk Club, which was really fun. The local staff first provided rubber shoes to prevent guests’ feet from being scraped by the sand on the seabed, and then a dedicated instructor guided me into the water one-on-one.Even though the oxygen helmet on your head weighs three kilograms and the early morning seawater is so cold it makes you want to back out, the sight of colorful fish swimming around and the clear water letting you see the vibrant underwater world makes it hard to leave. You just want to stay longer in the underwater world and be a mermaid.
