Bomb threat on Peach Aviation flight; 5-member group arrested by Japanese police

A Peach Aviation flight from New Chitose Airport to Kansai Airport today (December 16) was reportedly involved in a bomb threat incident. According to Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, after an emergency evacuation and search of the plane, no explosive device was found.

According to reports from Japanese media such as NHK, at 17:15 this evening, a flight operated by Peach Aviation from New Chitose Airport to Kansai Airport was involved in a situation where one member of a group of five passengers told airport staff that someone in their group had brought an explosive device onboard. Upon receiving the information, New Chitose Airport promptly evacuated all passengers and conducted a thorough search. The New Chitose Airport Office of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism stated that after the search, fortunately no dangerous items were found, while the five suspects have been detained for further investigation.

Peach Aviation is a Japanese low-cost carrier currently operating routes between Taiwan and Japan, including flights from Taipei to Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa, as well as from Kaohsiung to Osaka.
