Following the drink trends sparked by Kaohsiung’s Xiaoyin Liangcha and Tainan’s 32 Bag Milk, “Huami,” a new spot in Anping, Tainan, has just opened last week and has already attracted a wave of visitors on Instagram. Handcrafted brown sugar bubble milk, poured into transparent zip-lock bags, creating a coffee-milk gradient that’s become the latest trendy must-have.

Hidden at the entrance of Anping Old Street, Huami shares the same owner as Kuma’s Home Creative Ice Cream. “We’ve been planning the hand-roasted brown sugar product for a month, but we went through several design tweaks to ensure the packaging and drink would look perfect together—only starting trial sales last week,” said the owner.

The owner explained that each drink is made with brown sugar bubbles simmered by hand for 1.5 hours daily, then mixed with specially made hand-roasted brown sugar syrup and fresh milk. Currently only two flavors are available: Obsidian Bubbles and Dark Roast Rich, both priced at NT$55. Seasonal hot drinks may be introduced later, and brown sugar-related products are also sold on-site.
Unlike the cute hand-drawn style of 32 Bag Milk, Huami’s bagged drinks take a more premium approach. Those who have tried it say Huami’s handcrafted brown sugar drink has a slight roasted bitterness from the hand-roasted brown sugar—it’s not overly sweet, and you can really taste its rich aroma. Many finish the whole bag in one go.
