On the 22nd, the Keelung City Government announced that it will collaborate with the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology to hold the 2016 (105th year of the Republic of China) New Year’s Day flag-raising ceremony at Jiaojing Park, located right by the seaside. Keelung’s coastline has long been a great spot for watching the sunrise, and among its highlights, the Tofu Rock on Heping Island was once selected as one of the world’s 19 most beautiful sunrise spots. Come to Jiaojing Park on New Year’s Day 2016 and enjoy both the breathtaking sunrise and the flag-raising ceremony!
Keelung Mayor Lin You-chang said the annual New Year’s Day flag-raising ceremony marks the start of the new year. In previous years, it was always held in front of the Cultural Affairs Center plaza, but in 2016 it will move to Jiaojing Park at the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology. The city government, in collaboration with the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology and King Yuan Marine Enterprise Co., Ltd., will organize the event together. Before 12 noon that day, free parking will be available for citizens attending the ceremony.
To encourage public participation, the Keelung City Government has arranged free shuttle buses from the Cultural Affairs Center and various districts to the flag-raising event. Limited-edition national flag headbands will also be given to participants, hoping everyone will join together at Jiaojing Park to experience a unique New Year’s Day flag-raising ceremony in Keelung.
