After years of preparation and construction, the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum (also known as the Southern Palace Museum) officially began trial operations on December 28, with a “Main Hall Lighting Ceremony and Yunlin–Chiayi–Tainan Night” event held on the evening of December 27.

Covering an area of approximately 70 hectares, the Southern Palace Museum is significantly larger than the 20-hectare Northern Palace Museum. It also features water-themed gardens, ecological ponds, and the 141.7-meter-long Zhi Mei Bridge. Chiayi County Magistrate Chang Hua-kuan also shared an aerial video of the lighting ceremony on her Facebook fan page, “Magistrate Chang Hua-kuan (Little Flower).” The public can enjoy the scenery of the Southern Palace Museum from unique perspectives.

Chang Hua-kuan also stated on Facebook: Although there were some minor flaws at the opening and slight delays in the construction progress, we sincerely believe and earnestly hope that this “Pearl of Southern Taiwan” will gradually reach its full potential.
