Cycling around Taiwan solo is now a breeze！ The Bicycle Route 1 for Island-Circling Officially Launched

In recent years, a global cycling craze has emerged, and Taiwan has been striving to create a bicycle-friendly environment. On the 30th, Bicycle Route 1 for Island-Circling was officially launched. The main route spans approximately 968 kilometers, featuring dedicated bicycle signs and markings along the way to clearly guide riders on their island journey. Additionally, 122 supply stations have been set up along the route, ensuring that even solo travelers can successfully complete this impressive cycling feat！

“Bicycle Route 1 for Island-Circling” was officially launched on the 30th. Premier Mao Chi-kuo attended the press conference and praised the efforts of all agencies and colleagues who worked together to build a bicycle-friendly environment. Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Jian-yu further stated that there are three must-do adventurous activities in Taiwan: first, swimming across Sun Moon Lake; second, reaching the summit of Yushan; and finally, completing a bicycle ride around the island！

By following “Bicycle Route 1 for Island-Circling,” riders will encounter clear, dedicated bicycle signs and markings throughout, ensuring a high level of safety. The main route spans approximately 968 kilometers and features 122 supply stations thoughtfully placed to offer rest and replenishment for cyclists. Moreover, considering that not all cyclists can complete the full loop (in 9 days), 11 intermodal transfer stations (rail plus bike) have been planned to allow cyclists to complete the journey in segments.

In addition, to better serve cyclists, the Taiwan Railways Administration has increased the frequency of intermodal transport services, reducing combined travel time for cyclists and their bikes. Starting from October 15, 2015, cyclists only need to apply at the station 20 minutes before train departure to board intermodal trains.

On this day, Premier Mao Chi-kuo and Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Jian-yu also personally led various agency heads for a trial ride on “Bicycle Route 1 for Island-Circling.” In the future, popular attractions such as the Chimei Museum in Tainan and the National Palace Museum Southern Branch in Chiayi will also be integrated into the route, creating even more island-circling itineraries.
