Angel halos and colorful Christmas trees reflected on the water—A must-visit Christmas lights festival for a date at Cheonggyecheon

Cheonggyecheon, a place many visitors to Korea flock to, is one of the most popular dating spots for Korean couples. Starting December 12 this year, Cheonggyecheon also hosted its first-ever Seoul Christmas Festival, adding even more charm to its romantic nights.

The majority of the light displays set up along Cheonggyecheon feature Christmas-themed elements such as Christmas trees, angels, and snowflakes. The vibrant lights reflecting off the water create layered plays of light and shadow, showcasing a unique Christmas light display distinct from those in typical commercial streets.

Reader Mei, who visited Cheonggyecheon specifically to experience Seoul’s Christmas vibe, shared that the design-forward light decorations paired with the chilly weather made the winter feeling even stronger. Many Korean couples and families come here to enjoy the night view. There’s also a uniquely shaped wishing tree where people can make wishes—an amusing highlight.

Even though Christmas has passed, Cheonggyecheon’s dazzling light displays will remain until January 10, complementing the Myeongdong Lights Festival (ending January 31). Visitors heading to Seoul soon should take the opportunity to check it out.
