How touching to witness the first light of dawn from the sky — a marriage proposal on the tarmac at Taitung Airport!

To greet the first light of dawn in 2016, Mandarin Airlines launched a "Dawn Flight," allowing 140 passengers to see the sunrise from the plane. Inspired by the breathtaking moment, a romantic marriage proposal was then staged on the tarmac after landing.

Mandarin Airlines’ “2016 Dawn Million Special Flight, Sending Love to Hana’s House in Taitung” landed perfectly at Taitung Fongnian Airport at 7:00 AM on January 1st. The stunning sunrise left the 140 lucky passengers aboard the dawn flight exclaiming, “So beautiful!”

Inspired by the dawn, a couple even staged a marriage proposal right after landing. Mr. Wu got down on one knee, holding flowers and a ring, while Ms. Lu shyly said, “Yes.”

According to Central News Agency reports, Mr. Wu and his girlfriend, both 33 years old, had known each other for less than a year. They had wanted to propose while on the plane upon seeing the dawn but felt it would be too showy, so they waited until after landing. Ms. Lu, seeing the dawn from the plane, felt a sense of brightness and believed it symbolized their future life — and at that very moment, she decided she would marry him.

Mandarin Airlines donated all proceeds from the million-dollar Dawn Special Flight — approximately NT$1 million — to “Hana’s House,” which shelters abandoned infants under two years old in eastern Taiwan. Due to limited space and beds at their currently rented location, there is an urgent need to build a dedicated home, with total costs estimated at around NT$35 million. Currently, NT$25 million is still needed. Mandarin Airlines has contributed the flight proceeds as an initial donation to help build a safe shelter for the babies at Hana’s House, and hopes the public will also lend support to make Hana’s dream of a new home come true sooner.
