Every weekend holiday, waking up early to enjoy a rare moment of leisure over brunch is always a good idea, and the area around the art museum is usually a great choice. In addition to the colorful international restaurants along the Green Boulevard, there are also some lesser-known cafés hidden in the nearby lanes worth discovering. This time, we explored the area around Lane 51, Wuxian 7th Street, where the most famous spot is undoubtedly the all-white building of 【Old Chen’s Coffee】.

However, right across from it, at the entrance of an even narrower alley, you’ll spot two signs bearing the name 【Sasarido】. Follow the direction and you’ll first come across a small garden, then a cozy café tucked away within...

This 【Sasarido】 was actually featured on the TV show “Foodie Traveler,” though I had no idea it was hidden in such an off-the-beaten-path location. Walking into this little haven from the narrow alley felt like a lovely surprise — almost like stepping into a private home kitchen. These days, not every café or restaurant can offer a small garden, which adds to the warm, homely vibe.

You can choose to sit outdoors, basking in the sunlight and serenity, or head inside to find a comfy spot to lounge and daydream. Because of its secluded setting, you’re spared the noise of busy streets — a rare treat, though the location can be a bit tricky to find!

The first floor is split between a kitchen bar and seating area. As soon as you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm ambiance, with cute and playful wall decals and charming little décor elements that give off a slight family-friendly, even kid-welcoming vibe. The second floor is more spacious, entirely dedicated to seating, but with a different atmosphere than the first floor.

There’s also a small terrace outside where you can enjoy the feel of sunlight and the scent of blue skies — perfect for a relaxing brunch. Or rather, the ocean-themed decor on the second floor feels like it was tailor-made for the café’s name, Sausalito. Sausalito is a bay town just across the bridge from San Francisco, and the café owner, who fell in love with the town during travels, named the café after it and even painted the bay view on the wall.

For the menu, they serve all-day brunch here. While brunch cafés are practically everywhere these days, Sasarido still manages to offer its own unique twist. The official menu is a bit hard to photograph (XD), so I took a picture of the ordering sheet, which actually makes it clearer what’s available. There are quite a few options. Besides brunch, they also serve pasta and risotto, though the prices are slightly on the higher side.

But the portions are very generous — I definitely left feeling full, which is super important. Also, on weekdays, you can refill your tea (black tea) unlimited times, which is a nice perk.

【Brunch │ Pan-Fried Golden Mini Baguette & Grilled German Sausage │ 288 TWD】
The moment it was served, my eyes were drawn to the golden-brown French bread and German sausages. The portion is pretty substantial. The plate also comes with sweet potato puree, crispy potatoes, farm salad, and a rich soup made from fresh tomatoes. It's super filling. First off, the tomato soup is really good — not overly tart, just naturally tangy and sweet.

The crispy potatoes are delicious too — crunchy but not hard. Especially the French bread, which has a lovely eggy aroma and subtle sweetness, and they gave quite a few slices. The two German sausages are so filling that, combined with everything else, you’re about 80–90% full. Honestly, it’s like having breakfast and lunch all in one.

【Brunch │ Cast-Iron Pan Beef & Cheese Salsa Burger Baked Eggs │ 258 TWD │ Popular Dish】
Seeing something that looks like a flag first thing in the morning almost makes you want to stand up and sing the national anthem before digging in (just kidding). The staff says this is one of their popular dishes. I found the presentation and ingredients quite appealing to younger crowds. Apparently, it’s a favorite among female customers for photos and social media posts — it has a rustic charm. Crispy potatoes, farm salad, and the fresh tomato soup are the usual sides, while the stars are the baked eggs and the beef & cheese burger in front. This might have been my favorite dish of the day. Let’s start with the baked eggs — they’re kind of like a soufflé.

The round, puffed-up baked egg is steaming hot, but like a soufflé, it slowly sinks a bit, though not enough to collapse. Take a big spoonful and you get a fluffy texture, soft egg flavor mixed with diced vegetables, all bursting with warmth. The seasoning isn’t heavy, but it’s not bland either. Just be careful as it’s super hot — but wow, it’s surprisingly tasty!

The beef & cheese salsa burger on the side has a cheese sauce that’s neither too thin nor too thick. The beef is cooked tender, the bread has a nice chew, and the cheese sauce is perfectly salty. The whole combo is really addictive, and I finished it in no time. Both star dishes really delivered.

【Italian Risotto │ Porcini Mushroom Risotto (Vegetarian with Egg & Dairy) │ 258 TWD】
The portion of their risotto is quite generous. Though the plate is slightly dished, it has some depth. The moment it’s served, you’re hit with a strong cheese aroma — actually, super strong (XD). There’s a lot of cheese, which somewhat overshadows the porcini mushroom fragrance. Whether this ratio is good or not depends on personal taste. The texture of the risotto isn’t exactly my favorite,

but when I asked the staff, I learned that it was originally made with a more authentic Italian texture that retained some firmness in the center. However, since the Taiwanese market isn’t as keen on that style, they adjusted the texture to be softer — making it easier for kids or older guests to enjoy.

【Pasta │ Smoked Chicken Parmesan Pasta (Spicy) │ 298 TWD】
Between the two hot dishes, I’d recommend this pasta more. Not only is the portion solid, but the ingredients are generous too. It uses flat pasta, which has a nice bite and the right level of doneness. The sauce is what really won me over.

You wouldn’t know from the name, but it has a subtle spicy kick. At first, it’s all about the creamy cheese aroma, and then the spice gradually builds as you chew. It’s smooth, not greasy, and there’s more than just smoked chicken — lots of bacon and sausages too!

【Pasta or Risotto │ Combo Set │ Add 69 TWD】
We added a combo set, but the items in the set don’t come out in any particular order — they’re all served together on a wooden tray: farm salad, tomato soup, garlic bread, and a drink. Adding the combo to the main meal definitely fills you up.

【Brunch │ Eggs Benedict with Rosemary-Smoked Salmon │ 218 TWD】
Eggs Benedict is probably the most familiar brunch option, yet it’s one of my all-time favorites. That said, this version only comes with crispy potatoes, which feels a bit light on the sides.

But the dish itself is delicious — the salty richness of the hollandaise sauce paired with the creamy yolk is really satisfying. It’s quite good, though in terms of portion size, I’d lean toward the previous two brunch dishes for a more filling meal.

【Dessert │ French Rice Pudding │ NT$169 │ Choose one scoop of ice cream】
Speaking of this dessert, it leads us to another signature item here—their homemade Italian gelato. In fact, you’ll notice a prominent gelato display cabinet right next to the entrance before you even step inside. The storefront prominently features Italian gelato, not only because it’s made in-house, but also because the shop was formerly another well-regarded gelato brand called ‘I's GELATO.’
After deciding to change their business model, they became what is now Sarastedo. Topped on the rice pudding is their matcha gelato (you can choose your own ice cream flavor), exuding a subtle lemon aroma. Though the inside consists of sweet rice grains, they have a surprisingly chewy and soft Q-texture. The elegance of lemon paired with matcha, plus the contrast between the warm rice and the cool gelato, creates a delightful fusion of flavors in your mouth—offering a rice pudding experience quite unlike any I’ve had before. I actually really liked it.

【Dessert │ Chocolate Banana Crepe │ NT$189 │ Choose two scoops of ice cream】
It’s roughly similar to the making of a French crêpe, but the crepe here is slightly thicker. It’s filled with chocolate and banana, served on a crunchy base of fried dough shards, and topped with two scoops of your choice of ice cream. Personally, I found the crepe itself to be fairly average—maybe because the previous rice pudding was just so memorable.

【Drink │ Iced Fruit Tea │ NT$149 │ 50% off drink with set meal】
A simple iced fruit tea, served in an adorable small glass, offering a sweet and tangy refreshing taste.

This 【Sarastedo】 place might be a bit too hidden. Otherwise, I had read some pretty good reviews online before visiting, though it seems that most who come are people who particularly enjoy brunch. Otherwise, the average customer might not easily stumble upon it. However, aside from brunch, I think the overall ambiance is also a great spot to bring kids—even though there’s no play area, there are high chairs, and the decor has a cozy vibe. There’s also a rare little front garden, plus their own homemade Italian gelato (which kids will love), making it a perfect family outing destination on weekends. The brunch portions are also quite filling for me, and the flavors are pretty good. If you’re interested, I’d recommend giving it a try.
