After five years of construction, a NT$10 billion investment, and the tragic shooting death of chairman Huang Ming-jen by his brother just before the opening, The Miramar Taipei is finally set to begin its soft launch on January 9th. Unlike typical hotels, The Miramar Taipei positions itself primarily as a culinary destination, with five distinct dining venues inside—including a Western buffet, a Japanese restaurant, a European-style restaurant, a Taiwanese and Chaoshan-Cantonese cuisine restaurant, and a banquet hall. The ratio of room revenue to F&B revenue is 3:7, showcasing a unique market positioning.

Chen Chunchung, who has taken over as the new chairman of The Miramar Taipei, said he is somewhat of a newcomer and outsider to the hospitality industry, and faced significant challenges in setting up the hotel. Fortunately, their affiliate company, Miramar International, has extensive experience in both ingredients and F&B. Coupled with the support of many benefactors along the way, The Miramar Taipei is finally ready to meet the public.

The Miramar Taipei targets the high-end consumer market, featuring a neoclassical design theme. The hotel’s entrance boasts 10-meter-tall Roman columns. The design engaged CCD (Cheng Chung Design), ranked among the top global hotel design firms, for interior spaces; renowned spatial aesthetics designer Chang Tsung-hsin for the main building exterior; IBM USA for the low-voltage systems engineering; and leading Japanese and Taiwanese construction firms, Obayashi Corporation and Taiwan Obayashi, for the construction. Together, they built The Miramar Taipei, guided by green environmental principles and low-density development. In December 2015, it earned the “Green Building” certification, with over three-quarters of its area planted with various grasses, flowers, and ground covers—offering guests a green, humanistic, and leisure-oriented atmosphere.

The hotel occupies floors 1 to 9, with a total of 126 guest rooms and 20 suites, offering six room types. Each room is designed with at least 15 ping (approximately 49.5 square meters) of space and 3.4-meter-high ceilings, featuring marble showers and spacious walk-in closets. The rooms also come with rare amenities not commonly found in Taiwanese hotels, such as a full range of 100% cotton bedding and premium bathrobes custom-made by Italy’s 150-year-old Rivolta Carmignani; custom independent pocket spring mattresses from the century-old American brand Simons; Toto Washlet toilets from Japan; rare cypress stools and Japanese cypress dippers; as well as a luxury Hermès bath set.

Unlike typical hotels, The Miramar Taipei positions F&B as its primary revenue driver, with a room-to-F&B revenue ratio of 3:7, highlighting its unique market stance. Guo Lingling, deputy general manager of The Miramar Taipei, said that although the hotel only has 146 rooms, it houses five restaurants. This decision was based on the observation of Taiwanese people’s passion for good food, plus the ability of Miramar International to supply premium ingredients of outstanding quality from both domestic and international sources—giving the hotel a head start in sourcing. Regarding this year’s revenue target, Guo estimated it would be between NT$1.1 billion and NT$1.2 billion.

From the soft launch until December 29, 2016, The Miramar Taipei is offering a 10% discount on room rates. Executive Room: NT$14,000; Deluxe Room: NT$17,000; Elite Room: NT$19,000; Prestige Suite: NT$31,000; Royal Suite: NT$41,000; Miramar Suite: NT$200,000.
