A Look Back at 2015: Tokyo’s 30 Most Check-Ins Restaurants

With Facebook being so popular, many people check in on the platform as soon as they visit a new place or try a new restaurant. Looking back at 2015, which restaurants in Tokyo were the most checked in? The food website Nichi compiled a list of the 30 most Instagrammed restaurants in Tokyo that year, including popular ramen chain Mujirushi Ichiran, HARBS (Shinjuku branch)—a blogger-favorite dessert spot in Tokyo, Kaneko Hannosuke which had just opened its first Taiwan branch, and Bills known for its iconic pancakes and listed as a must-try in Tokyo.

Among the 30 most checked-in restaurants in Tokyo in 2015, many would be familiar—or even already visited—by Taiwanese fans of Japanese cuisine. For example, Mujirushi Ichiran in Ikebukuro is a super-popular ramen spot, often recommended as one of the must-try ramens in Tokyo. HARBS is a go-to dessert destination for those with a sweet tooth, famous for its fruit tiramisu. With strawberry season in full swing, the shop also introduced a limited-edition strawberry series.

As for ramen, Ichiran is arguably the favorite among Taiwanese, and its Ebisu location is also featured on this list of 30. The seating resembles a study room, and customers can customize the soup’s richness, noodle firmness, toppings, and spice level—making it especially popular with travelers from Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Pancakes are a beloved sweet treat around the world, and among countless pancake spots globally, Bills’ offering was named “the best pancake in the world” by The New York Times. Even Leonardo DiCaprio has called Bills’ pancakes the best breakfast in the world. Originating in Australia, Bills rose to fame with its scrambled eggs and pancakes and now has multiple locations in Japan serving brunch, pasta, and more. Eggs 'n Things is another top-rated pancake spot, often seeing long queues at its branches, with its Harajuku branch making the list of Tokyo’s 30 most checked-in restaurants.
