Book Hokkaido Shinkansen tickets online and enjoy up to 40% off—traveling from Tokyo to Hokkaido just got more convenient in the future. The long-awaited “Hokkaido Shinkansen” has been confirmed to officially open on March 26. In the future, passengers will be able to reach Hokkaido directly from Tokyo in about 4 hours. JR Hokkaido announced on the 5th that those who book Hokkaido Shinkansen tickets online can enjoy discounts ranging from 25% to 40%, with ticket sales starting on February 26.

According to a report by the Asahi Shimbun, JR Hokkaido recently announced that booking Hokkaido Shinkansen tickets online can offer discounts of up to 40%. After completing free membership registration, you can book your tickets. There are two types of discounted tickets: one is the “Hokkaido Osakin ni Net Kippu (Early-Bird Online Ticket),” which allows you to book 14 days in advance and offers discounts from 25% to 40%; the other is the “Hokkaido Net Kippu (Online Ticket),” which requires booking at least one day in advance and offers discounts from 20% to 5%.

For example, a one-way trip from Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station costs 22,690 yen (about NT$6,135); Shin-Aomori to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto is 7,260 yen; Sendai to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto is 17,310 yen. If you book two weeks in advance, a one-way trip from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station to Tokyo is available at 75% off for just 17,017 yen (about NT$4,578), saving NT$1,377.
