1. Taipei Yangming Villa
Known as “Chiang Kai-shek’s last residence,” Yangming Villa is also home to his favorite plum blossoms. After being heavily damaged by Typhoon Soudelor last August, all the plum trees were toppled. Thanks to restoration efforts by the Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters, the plum blossoms have made a comeback. Though it’s an unusually warm late winter and early spring, the plum blossoms have quietly begun to bloom. However, the blooming period is expected to be short, so flower enthusiasts should hurry to catch the view while you can.

2. Taoyuan Kappan Mountain Retreat
Located upstream of the Dahan River southeast of Daxi Township, Kappan Mountain is known as the “Switzerland of Taiwan.” At an elevation of 436 meters, you can clearly witness the seasonal changes of both maple foliage and plum blossoms. As you explore, you’ll be constantly surprised – the blossoms are scattered unpredictably, so you might suddenly come upon a different flower around every corner, making every step a delightful discovery. But wherever you see flowers, they stretch out as far as the eye can see, offering a truly breathtaking experience.

3. Taichung Xinshe Meilin Qingshui An
Taichung Xinshe’s Meilin Qingshui An is a famous plum blossom viewing spot. Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by mountainsides blanketed in white plum blossoms – a sight that’s both refreshing and serene. The area also features an observation deck where visitors can get up close to the plum blossoms. If you need a rest, there are seats available, but even when you sit down, you’ll still find yourself surrounded by plum blossoms. Here, you can’t escape their charm – everywhere you look, the plum blossoms display their stunning beauty.

4. Taichung Baxianshan Forest Recreation Area
When it comes to plum blossoms in full bloom, how can we not mention Taichung’s Baxianshan? Located in Heping District, Taichung City, the Baxianshan Forest Recreation Area can be reached by turning right at the 33km mark of Provincial Highway 8. With the gentle winter breeze in the air, the pavilions in the park are adorned with plum blossoms, creating a pure white world. In addition to the plum blossoms, the area also offers cool mountain spring water for visitors to soak their feet or play in the water. Enjoying the beautiful scenery while soaking your feet brings a sense of total relaxation for both body and mind.

5. Nantou Niuchoukeng
Known as the “Hometown of Plum Blossoms,” Nantou’s Xinyi Township is a well-known plum blossom viewing destination across Taiwan. As winter temperatures drop, the conditions become ideal for the plum blossoms to bloom. It is expected that the plum blossoms will soon be in full bloom, and Niuchoukeng—located within Liujia Plum Garden—is covered with flowering plum trees, offering a refreshing and serene atmosphere.

6. Nantou FengguiDou
The plum trees in FengguiDou have rough, dark bark and twisted branches, presenting a majestic and graceful posture that is quite aesthetically pleasing. Most of the plum trees here are around 30 years old, with the oldest — known as the “King of Old Plum Trees” — being 70 years old and still thriving. Dubbed as home to 80% of Taiwan’s plum trees, FengguiDou becomes almost like a snowy kingdom in winter, seemingly covered in plum blossoms.

7. Nantou Wusong
Wusong is one of the three major plum blossom viewing spots in Nantou. As you walk into the plum garden, you can smell the rich fragrance of plum blossoms in the air. When you look out from the mountaintop, it’s as if the whole ridge has been dusted with snow — the white scenery emerging among the hills. Climbing up to Wusong, thanks to its high altitude, you can also take in the view of the Zhuoshui River valley and the rolling mountain ranges. Aside from enjoying the plum blossoms, you can also witness the surprises of nature.

8. Tainan Meiling Scenic Area
As its name suggests, Meiling is covered in blooming plum blossoms. Fallen petals turn the ground as white as snow, and the surrounding sea of plum blossoms envelops you like walking through a white tunnel — both picturesque and serene. As you climb higher along the mountain, you’ll encounter even more plum blossoms, entering a world entirely of plum, so enchanting that it's hard to tear yourself away. That’s probably the feeling you’ll get when visiting the Meiling Scenic Area.

9. Kaohsiung Liouguei District Baolai Zhulin Leisure Agriculture Area
In Baolai, Liouguei District, Kaohsiung, known for its Bulao Hot Springs, the area also boasts widespread blooming plum blossoms in winter — another must-see winter spectacle. It’s referred to as the “magnificent floral spectacle of southern Taiwan,” which gives you an idea of how beautiful it is. Although there were earlier reports that the plum blossoms hadn’t fully bloomed due to insufficient cold weather, as temperatures continue to drop, the flowers have now blossomed. This place is sure to be a hotspot for plum blossom enthusiasts, so visitors should plan their trip to this hidden gem at the right time.
