Set off to Shodoshima by ferry & enjoy the Seto Inland Sea in 360 degrees

The only way to reach Shodoshima is by taking a ferry. The production team departed directly from the SS Hotel and took a minibus to Takamatsu Port, which takes about 30 minutes. There are approximately 15 round-trip ferry services daily between Takamatsu Port and Toshima Port on Shodoshima, with each crossing taking around 60 minutes. Unlike the small ferries you take between Tamsui and Bali where passengers have to get off and walk into the cabin, this is a giant ferry that allows vehicles to be driven directly onto the ship.

The earliest ferry departs from Takamatsu Port to Toshima Port on Shodoshima at 6:25 AM. The fare is around 180 TWD per person, while vehicle fares vary depending on size.

The ferry has three levels: the first floor is for parking, the second is the passenger cabin, and the third is an observation deck. Since the ride lasts about an hour, staying in the car the whole time gets pretty boring, so most passengers choose to get out and head to the second-floor cabin.

After getting off the vehicle, walk past the parking area and up to the second-floor cabin. The cabin is equipped with comfortable sofas and tables, allowing passengers to sit back on the sofas and admire the beautiful Seto Inland Sea. Although the weather wasn’t great on the day of shooting, we were lucky enough to catch the misty mountain scenery over the sea — a view you’re more likely to see on days like this.

We thought the heavy rain might prevent us from going up to the third-floor observation deck, but luckily the weather cleared up for a bit, with some sun peeking through. Heading up to the deck gave us a full 360-degree view of the stunning Seto Inland Sea.

The Seto Inland Sea is a vital body of water located between Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu in Japan. It contains over 3,000 islands and is home to more than 500 species of marine life, including sweetfish, horseshoe crabs, great white sharks, and sea cucumbers, making it an important marine resource. How big is the Seto Inland Sea? It covers a total area of 19,700 square kilometers, stretching 450 kilometers from east to west and 15 to 55 kilometers from north to south. Its southern location means it enjoys a relatively warm climate with less rainfall.
