Michelin Guide Hidden Gems: A Local’s Home-Style Eatery in Prague

After Happy Cloud and Pipi’s food adventure in Prague during the summer holidays, this winter trip to Prague was, of course, another chance to indulge in culinary Up!! We used the sameMichelin Guide restaurants - Praguewebsite to search for Michelin-recommended restaurants near our hotel this time. We originally wanted to find a Michelin one-star restaurant, but reservations were impossible, so we let it go. No worries—we followed local recommendations to seek out the Michelin Guide’s value-for-money picks (Bib Gourmand).

"Bib Gourmand"—the icon on the website shows the Michelin baby licking its lips, haha, looking just like a "foodie" expression, so I nicknamed it the Michelin Foodie Restaurant~ Only later did I look it up online and found out it actually means "value-for-money restaurant"!!

I remember discovering six such value restaurants in Prague last time. The wonderful dining experience made me greedy—I wanted to try all five other recommended spots. I picked the closest restaurant to my hotel, "Divinis," to make the most of my last moments in Prague, letting the food send me off. Since it was a last-minute decision, I couldn’t make a reservation, so I had to take my chances and wait for the place to open!!

Haha, the staff were super strict about opening at 12:00 on the dot—no early, no late. There were locals waiting nearby too. I’d passed by last night during my walk and saw the place bustling with people. When the time came, I became the first customer of the day. When asked if I was dining alone, the staff’s expression shifted slightly, but they still found me a decent spot. Later, I saw photos online—it was exactly where I sat.

Soon after being seated, locals started coming in, including two groups carrying simply wrapped flowers. They asked the staff for vases in Czech, placed the flowers in them, and set the vased blooms on the table. Wow!! It felt like dining at home or a friend’s place—so homely. I didn’t see any other tourists during the meal, haha, which made me feel a bit out of place and hesitant to take out my camera.

Though not an extravagant meal, it fit the "simple lunch" vibe and let me relive the charm of a Michelin Guide value restaurant (Bib Gourmand).

After ordering my favorite sparkling water, I enjoyed it with the complimentary bread and red wine vinegar—sipping water, nibbling bread dipped in olive oil and vinegar, kicking off the anticipation for the meal. The Czech rye bread was different from what I’ve had before—an improved version with much better taste and texture. Dipped in the delicious vinegar, it was simple yet irresistible.

Before long, the main course arrived!! I ordered the "Chef’s Signature Dish / Specialita dello Chef," which seems to vary by month. Thecurrent menuon the website looked different from what I had that day. When it arrived, I was momentarily stunned—it looked like braised pork belly or maybe pork knuckle!!

The base and sauce blended Western and Chinese techniques—super interesting!! Cutting into the tender, slow-cooked meat released an aroma that filled the air. Once in my mouth, the sauce had already seeped in, tasting way better than it looked and adding a sense of visual familiarity. Meat lovers would probably find this incredibly delicious.

Maybe it’s considered creative cuisine for those seeking authentic Western or local dishes, but as food goes, it was truly delicious!!! The menu had plenty of other tempting options, making me hope I can come back next time!!

After the main, I ordered a dessert, Marsala Tiramisu. The staff smiled and said it was a great choice. I’m sure they were also thinking, "Why is this woman rushing through her meal? Can’t she just enjoy it properly...?" Sorry!! Time was tight, and I was too eager to eat, so from entering, ordering, eating to paying, it all took under 45 minutes because I had to meet the group for the river cruise!!

The tiramisu arrived quickly. Wow!! It was familiar—the alcohol flavor was mild and elegant, not overpowering, and the chocolate powder was delicious too. I scooped it up bite by bite, savoring the taste, and finished it quickly before hurrying to pay and leave!!

Though today’s lunch felt like a workday battle meal from my office days, I was happy to have seized the limited time to enjoy another great eatery. The Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand recommendation definitely lives up to the hype. If you want delicious yet affordable meals, try looking for Bib Gourmand listings in every city—you won’t go wrong!!
