Taoyuan Airport Winter Vacation Passenger Surge: Remove Thick Coats & Metal Items to Speed Up Security Checks

Since the 16th of this (January) month, Taoyuan International Airport has recorded over 50,000 outbound passengers daily—51,557 on the 16th, 59,081 on the 17th, 55,860 on the 18th, 52,584 on the 19th, and an estimated 52,022 on the 20th. The significant increase in outbound travelers is attributed to the conclusion of elections and the rise in winter vacation trips abroad.

During winter vacation and the Spring Festival period, the second terminal is expected to see over 6,000 outbound passengers per hour during the morning peak from 8:00 to 9:00 AM. To comply with global counter-terrorism measures, airport security checks are stringent and may take longer. To speed up the process, the airport authority reminds travelers:

1. Ideally, arrive at the airportat least three hours before your flight’s departure time;

2. Do not carry any prohibited or hazardous items;

3. Before passing through the metal detector,remove thick coats and metal items in advance,then fold your coat and place it along with your carry-on luggage into the X-ray scanner;

4. If carrying containers of liquids, gels, or sprays, theirvolume must not exceed 100 milliliters, and all such items must be placed in a single, resealable, transparent plastic bag no larger than 1 liter and completely sealed. Before entering the security checkpoint, there are hazardous item disposal bins where liquids over 100 ml can be poured out—travelers are encouraged to make use of them.

Additionally, to reduce queuing time at customs, travelers are advised tocomplete self-check-in online or via mobile device before leaving home,or use theself-service check-in kiosks (CUSS)at the airport; for customs clearance, priority should be given to automated clearance services.

Taiwanese nationals can apply for automated clearance at the Immigration Agency counter on the first floor of the Central Joint Office Building when renewing or applying for their passports. Initial registration requires only a passport and a secondary ID, takes just two minutes to apply, and allows for a 12-second clearance process—fast and convenient.
