Great New Year destination alert: Hualien Sunshine Electric City’s “Solar-Powered Climbing Gym” combines 3D murals

The outdoor“Solar-Powered Climbing Gym”at Hualien Sunshine Electric City, located near the well-known Dongmen Night Market tourist attraction, is Taiwan’s first unique climbing gym nestled within a night market. Starting now, it will be open to the public every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. To coincide with the Lunar New Year holiday, it will be open all day from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. from February 8 to 13. Rock climbing enthusiasts can come here to give it a try during the festive season.

Peng Weizu, acting director of the Tourism Department, said that in order to provide the public with more diverse recreational spaces, a nine-meter-high, seven-[meter] “solar-powered climbing gym” was built. Since its opening last January, it has attracted a large number of citizens and tourists to experience it, becoming an alternative choice for nighttime entertainment and leisure in Hualien.

Peng Weizu stated that during opening hours, the public can freely experience the bouldering area below a designated height (3 meters) under the guidance of on-site coaches; if exceeding the designated height, climbers must wear climbing gear and ropes. Additionally, the facility will be closed during inclement weather such as strong winds, rain, or low temperatures.

The Tourism Department also reminds the public that only one person is allowed per rope line at the climbing gym.During the climb, participants should assess their own limits and avoid attempting moves beyond their abilities.People who are taking medication, have consumed alcohol, or feel unwell should inform the on-site coach to evaluate their safety and avoid any risks.
