The 2017 Xinshe Flower Sea is here to bloom with a splash — featuring 4 major themed zones, and the “giant magpie” is a must-see!

The New Village Flower Sea is back again this year. To celebrate the 12th edition of the “New Village Flower Sea,” this year’s event is themed “Explore the New Village Flower Sea, Stroll Along Provincial Highway 3.” It will be held from November 11 to November 26 at the Second Farm of the National Crop Research and Improvement Center under the Council of Agriculture.

This year’s (2017) flower sea exhibition area features a giant magpie installation art piece as the centerpiece, with a landscape tapestry and edible landscaping as the main themes, complemented by geometric-patterned flower-seeding zones. It also incorporates four distinctive themed exhibition booths, showcasing four key aspects: “sustainable development, quality living, premium agricultural produce, and agricultural technology.”

The “Main Exhibition Area” spans approximately 3 hectares and includes a “Welcome Fruits and Vegetables Zone” made up of three-dimensional green sculptures crafted from the main fruits produced in Xinshe District. Other installations include the “Happy Flower Garden” featuring a family of magpies and orchids, and the “Mushroom Paradise” highlighting Xinshe’s specialty—shiitake mushrooms. These artistic displays create an atmosphere of a blissful flower sea and evoke the romantic imagery of traveling along Provincial Highway 3. A vibrant flower wall in the New Village Flower Sea draws visitors’ attention. The 10-hectare “Flower Sea Scenic Area” is planted with a wide variety of colorful blooms such as cosmos, zinnias, buckwheat, sunflowers, and sunn hemp. Additionally, next to the “Main Exhibition Area,” there is a “Premium Flower Zone” covering about 2 hectares, designed in a checkerboard layout to present a richly colored landscape tapestry.

The Council of Agriculture noted that this year’s “New Village Flower Sea” covers a total area of nearly 31 hectares, with the flower sea scenic area spanning around 15 hectares. It is divided into two conceptual themes: “landscape tapestry” and “edible landscaping.” The overall exhibition planning integrates new visual creativity, incorporating vegetables as decorative elements. Leveraging their diverse and vivid colors, these vegetables are displayed in large-scale land art forms to allow visitors to appreciate the richness and beauty of vegetable plants. Visitors can immerse themselves in the pastoral healing experience while also learning about the concept of food and agricultural education.

The New Village Flower Sea event is located at the Second Farm of the National Crop Research and Improvement Center in Xinshe District, Taichung City. During the event period, traffic control will be implemented around the venue.
