Xingfatting
The long-established shaved ice shop Xingfatting is recommended by netizens. Its interior is decorated in a nostalgic retro style, offering everything from hot soybean curd, red bean soup, to various shaved ice treats. Xingfatting started in 1938 (Year 27 of the Republic of China) as a mobile honey bean ice vendor, and settled at Taichung First Market in 1943 (Year 32 of the Republic of China), adopting the name “Xingfatting.” By 1983 (Year 72 of the Republic of China), honey bean ice had become the most popular shaved ice in Taichung. Now in its third generation of management, besides the classic honey bean ice, they also offer a winter-limited strawberry snowflake ice.

Located on Minsheng Road in Tainan, “Bingxiang” is a 30-year-old shop.The high-value strawberry milk ice finally went on sale on January 27th！The whole plate is covered with an abundance of strawberries, making it hard to even see the ice underneath. It’s then drizzled with the owner’s homemade strawberry jam and condensed milk, attracting many who make a pilgrimage here every year. At just 85 NT dollars per plate and loaded with overflowing strawberries, every customer who’s tried it exclaims, “The owner is truly too kind!” Those wanting to try the strawberry milk ice should check the shop’s fan page beforehand, as daily availability is posted there—otherwise, you might arrive only to find it sold out.

Longxing Ice Shop
For those who don’t like shaved snow ice, Longxing Ice Shop is a good alternative—they serve their strawberry milk ice with traditional shaved ice, topped with plenty of strawberries, drizzled with condensed milk, and sprinkled with some cornflakes. The fresh strawberries paired with crispy cornflakes and sweet condensed milk create a wonderful texture. But if you want to enjoy delicious strawberry ice this year, you might have to wait until after the Lunar New Year. The shop says that due to the extreme cold wave last time, many strawberries were frozen and damaged.
