Taoyuan Airport sees record passenger volume during Spring Festival; New Year's Eve Eve hits 135,000 breaking records

Taoyuan International Airport has once again set a new record for passenger volume during Spring Festival travel. On the 6th (New Year's Eve Eve), the total number of actual inbound, outbound, and transfer passengers for the day reached a staggering 135,135, surpassing the previous high of 132,000 and marking a new all-time high for Taoyuan Airport's passenger traffic.

On the 6th, Taoyuan Airport operated a total of 108 extra flights, with a total of 787 flights. The Terminal 1 saw 56,960 inbound and outbound passengers, while Terminal 2 handled 72,972. There were also 5,203 transfer passengers, bringing the total for the day to 135,135. On the 7th (Lunar New Year’s Eve), the total number of flights is expected to be 748 (including 77 extra flights), with an estimated 105,255 passengers.

Taoyuan Airport General Manager Fei Hong-jun stated that to avoid traffic congestion and to allow time for security checks, the airport urges passengers to check in three hours early. Currently, most airlines have coordinated with the transport operation and opened check-in counters earlier. Thai Airways and some Chinese airlines, limited by their operating systems, have done their best to open counters 2.5 hours early. Tour buses are managed through a license plate odd-even diversion system. For airside operations, the number of apron shuttle buses has increased from six to ten, and eight additional parking stands have been made available to assist with flight scheduling.

To speed up customs clearance efficiency for passengers during the Spring Festival period and avoid delays caused by crowds, Taoyuan Airport Corporation reminds passengers of the following:
1. Outbound passengers should arrive at the airport 3 hours before the scheduled departure time of their flight.
2. Self-service check-in can be completed in advance at home via mobile phone or internet.
3. To facilitate passport inspection and expedite customs clearance, passengers can apply for the Auto Gate (e-Gate) service in advance with their passport and a second ID. The application process takes only 2 minutes, and once approved, using the Auto Gate system at the airport takes just 12 seconds for smooth passage.

Quick clearance tips:
1. Passengers should not carry hazardous items. Do not place spare lithium batteries or lighters in checked baggage.
2. Before passing through the metal detector at security, please remove heavy coats, belts, hats, and metal items, and take out tablets and laptops. Place them along with folded coats and carry-on items into the X-ray scanner for inspection.
3. Liquid, gel, and spray containers in carry-on or hand luggage must not exceed 100 milliliters and must be placed in a transparent, resealable plastic bag no larger than 1 liter (20×20 cm), with a limit of one bag per passenger.
4. Hazardous items drop-off boxes are available in front of the security screening area. Liquids over 100 milliliters should be poured out and discarded. Passengers are encouraged to use these to speed up the security process.
