Located in Keelung, the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology is Taiwan’s largest marine science learning hub. During the Lunar New Year holiday, it is hosting a special event titled “Explore NMST – Join the Spring Stroll & Mascot Hunt” from February 10 to February 14. In addition to visiting the museum, the public can explore the surrounding areas as part of the Spring Stroll.NMST’s Facebook PageParticipants have a chance to win limited-edition mascots.

Mascots & Highlights Around NMST:

1. The Mascot of the Ocean Exploration Station(In front of the Bicycle Station at the Regional Exploration Hall)

The cheerful and adorable Exploration Girl loves hiking and exploring the seas, freely adventuring in the ocean park. She often takes her friends on journeys through the NMST, helping people build a closer connection with the ocean.

2. The Return of Shen’ao, the Bear-Chan NMST Mascot(At the entrance of the Shen’ao Branch Line NMST Train Station at Beining Intersection)

The Fire Bear drives the Pingxi Shen’ao train, heading toward a museum full of knowledge.

3. The Mascot Embracing the Beauty of Chaojing(On Platform 3 of Ruifang Railway Station, Taiwan Railways Administration)

The predecessor of NMST was the North Thermal Power Plant. The Fire Bear, who once worked at the plant, is strong, reliable, calm, and powerful. Wearing a power symbol work cap and carrying a toolbox, he worked diligently. To this day, his “raging flames” continue to guard NMST and the ocean.

4. Officer 8 Mascot(At the Badouzi Substation of the Keelung City Police Department’s Second Precinct)

“Officer 8” is a bipedal alloy robot from another dimension. Its team members are “Meow,” “Bear-Bear,” and “Bunny,” who take monthly shifts to maintain local safety and respond to disaster relief missions.

5. The Painted House(Next to Changtan Fishing Port in Keelung City)

The painted house next to Changtan Fishing Port was jointly completed by residents and students under the guidance of instructor Zhou Meng-de from Keelung Community College. Its retro design and vibrant wall colors blend perfectly with the surroundings.

6. Street-End Murals(At the end of Badou Street in Keelung City)

The “New? Goods” store at the end of Badou Street sells various seafood, cooked food, and dried goods. Created by instructor Lin Hong-wei and community learners trained by NMST, the exterior walls recreate the look of old fishing huts. The lively brushstrokes depict vivid catches, and flowing lines bring the energy of the fishing village to life.
