Japanese ramen shop opens at Linkou Mitsui Outlet Park！Rich white broth “tonkotsu ramen”

The food court at Mitsui Outlet Park Linkou is truly amazing, bringing in a lot of Japanese cuisine so you can enjoy authentic flavors without flying to Japan. Actually, I’d seen the shop preparing beforehand, and finally the trial operation has begun. I think, if you want to avoid the queue, you should head straight to the food court when it first opens—that’ll cut down on waiting time. But recently there have been news reports about the Mitsui Outlet Park Linkou parking lot being packed during holidays, so I suggest taking the shuttle from Chang Gung Hospital or using other public transport to avoid the congestion...

During the trial period, we started by buying from other shops, so by lunchtime when we got to Tanaka Shop, there was definitely a line—but luckily it wasn’t too long. We walked around and waited about 20 minutes before getting a spot.

However, during the trial period, they didn’t serve the golden egg, so both Meal #1 and the kids’ meal weren’t available. Of course, you also couldn’t add the golden egg as an upgrade, which was a bit disappointing. I’ll just have to come back another time to try the golden egg that the kids love so much.

The chefs cooking that day were mainly Japanese, which usually means the taste won’t be too far off—heehee.

After ordering, it was time to wait for the food to be cooked. During that time, we could pick some pickles. The tongs provided were really hard to use—they were like the kind used for plucking pig bristles—but the pickles had a very strong flavor, so you don’t need much to enhance the taste.

Uh, I’m not very skilled, so if I used chopsticks, I might’ve picked up more. But this amount is just about right with a bowl.

There’s also white sesame and white pepper provided for adding. I only remembered to add them after taking photos—because I was in a rush when the food arrived and forgot to put the white sesame on. Adding some makes it tastier.

Tonkotsu Ramen $260

Each bowl of ramen comes with a thank-you card printed in multiple languages, so every customer who eats ramen can feel the owner’s thoughtfulness. Just looking at the milky white broth is very appealing.

Green Onion Ramen $300

Because the ramen we wanted wasn’t available, my friend chose the green onion ramen, which has the most green onions. Actually, I didn’t eat scallions at all when I was little, but now that I’m older, I feel like ramen with green onions actually tastes even better. The aroma when it was served was especially nice.

Extra noodles $30

I originally wanted to get the kids’ ramen for my child, but it wasn’t available that day, so we ended up ordering extra noodles instead. Surprisingly, the extra noodles come separately, not added directly to the ramen. Actually, this made it harder to separate the noodles once we got them back to the table—they all stuck together...

Char siu Ramen $320

If you’re a meat lover, then the char siu ramen is the way to go. They give you quite a few slices of char siu, but this char siu is a bit different from what you usually get—it’s more like pork belly. I personally don’t dare to eat that style much, but Mr. A loves it:

Half-fat, half-lean char siu, sliced pretty thick.

I had the tonkotsu ramen—the broth was really good, thick and milky white, and it had a gelatinous texture in the mouth. It was really rich and flavorful. You’re also supposed to mix the noodles when eating, but I don’t know why, when I brought it back to the table, the noodles stuck together again. Fortunately, they were still separable.

Hoo hoo hoo~~ Eating noodles with big bites is the way to go. These noodles are thin but very smooth, and the portion is actually quite large—a woman’s portion is pretty generous. Fortunately, I shared with my kid, so I had energy left to eat other things. This visit to Tanaka Shop is one of the better bowls of ramen I’ve had in Taoyuan recently. If you don’t want to travel too far north in the future, you can come here to Mitsui Outlet Park Linkou to get it—but the prerequisite is that I have to squeeze in...
