Taiwanese-style fried rice shops aren’t rare in Kaohsiung, but those specializing in Thai flavors are far fewer. Not far from Midiya’s Claypot Pasta, there’s a newly opened Thai fried rice specialty store. The owner, a chef with experience working at large Thai restaurants, simply wanted to offer delicious Thai cuisine at budget-friendly prices to the people of Kaohsiung.

Though it’s an affordable fried rice shop, the place actually has both first and second floors. Compared to typical Taiwanese fried rice eateries, the dining environment here is far superior—more like a proper restaurant.

The first floor is mainly the kitchen area, with a few tables and chairs along the walkway, while the second floor features an air-conditioned dining space with vibrant colors and a comfortable atmosphere.

The menu is placed at the counter, and ordering is self-service. Fried rice is the specialty here, but they also offer stir-fried noodles and Thai dishes—perfect for Thai food lovers who want restaurant-quality flavors at wallet-friendly prices.

Thai-style Silken Egg – NT$80 / Includes one bowl of steamed rice

This tender egg, infused with basil aroma and a hint of spiciness, is incredibly smooth and well-seasoned, making it a perfect match for rice.

The steamed rice wasn’t something we ordered separately—it came free with the silken egg. We were pleasantly surprised; it’s the first time we’ve ever gotten free rice with a dish. The shop is really thoughtful and considerate.

Shrimp Vermicelli Claypot – NT$150

Eight shrimp sit atop a bed of vermicelli, coated in a lightly spicy, savory sauce. It’s hard to describe the exact flavor, but it’s incredibly flavorful.

Thai Seafood Stir-Fried Instant Noodles – NT$80

It delivers the familiar Thai taste, and the noodles aren’t overcooked. The flavor is tangy and sweet without being cloying.

Pad Kra Pao Pork Fried Rice – NT$80

The pad kra pao pork boasts fragrant basil and scrambled egg notes. While the fried rice grains remain distinct, it leans more toward a moist and soft texture—a bold-flavored dish that we loved.

Red Curry Beef Fried Rice – NT$90

This was ordered by the table next to us, but we borrowed it for photos. The beef fried rice has lemongrass notes and a mildly spicy kick—just something to reference.

Shrimp Paste Long Beans – NT$80

The shrimp paste is homemade, with a rich umami flavor. When it first arrives, there’s a slightly fishy aroma, but once you taste it, the shrimp paste is quite fragrant. The long beans are crisp rather than limp and over-sautéed.

Thai Spicy and Sour Seafood Soup – NT$80

I personally really enjoy this soup, which balances spicy and sour flavors without leaning too heavily toward either. It contains a few shrimp, squid, clams, and more. The portion may seem small, but the broth is quite enjoyable overall.

Normally, you’d have to dine out to enjoy Thai cuisine, but this shop undoubtedly saves the wallets of budget-conscious diners. Small families can order a few dishes and still have a satisfying meal. The dining environment is better than your average food stall, so there’s no reason not to give it a try. Highly recommended for Thai food lovers.
