Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival 20TN Giant “Two Hearts United Lantern” Takes Flight Romantically on Valentine’s Day

The second event of the 2016 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, the “Two Hearts United, Love Settled in Pingxi” Blessing Lantern Ceremony, romantically took place at Pingxi Junior High School on the 14th. The highlight was the 6-meter-tall, approximately two-story-high 20TN“Two Hearts United Lantern”, jointly released by President Ma Ying-jeou and New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Hou Yu-ih. 99+101 heart-shaped lanterns also ascended into the sky under the witness of distinguished guests and foreign envoys stationed in Taiwan, witnessing many beautiful and touching love stories.

Two Hearts United Lantern
The much-anticipated 20TN giant main lantern, the “Two Hearts United Lantern,” was created using the fingerprints and wishes of a thousand couples collected from eight romantic spots across northern Taiwan between January 13 and January 24. It features thousands of colorful heart-shaped paper pieces that together form the words “2016 LOVE” on two sides and vibrant large heart patterns on the other two sides—overflowing with happiness. Each tiny heart paper was personally imprinted and inscribed with wishes by couples, spouses, and even families, resulting in this eye-catching, joy-filled “Two Hearts United Lantern.” As the lantern slowly ascended, onlookers erupted in admiration and couldn’t help but cheer along.

Lucky couples who participated in the “Love Unlimited ~ Online Collection of Love Stories” campaign released a total of 99 heart-shaped lanterns on-site (three per couple), symbolizing everlasting happiness. In the romantic atmosphere, an overseas Chinese couple, who were about to emigrate, specially attended the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival before leaving Taiwan, hoping to have their steadfast love witnessed under the romantic lanterns—a deeply touching moment.

Heart Lanterns
Additionally, 101 lucky married couples signed up online to attend and release sweet heart lanterns. Each had their own story—there were longtime married couples, families with wives and kids, and newlyweds brimming with sweetness. Everyone was excited to have the chance to release a heart lantern and wrote wishes for family safety and good health. Blessed by everyone’s well-wishes, the 101 heart lanterns flew together, creating an unforgettable, beautiful scene that left lasting memories in all hearts.
