The light bulb bubble tea that started in Yilan has recently sparked a “light bulb drink” craze across the country. It’s not just in Yilan anymore—you can now find these drinks in Hualien, Changhua, and Tainan too. If you haven’t tried one yet, head out and give it a go. But be sure to make a reservation in advance if you don’t want to make a wasted trip.

Yilan – Qili Bay Bubble Tea Cultural & Creative House
Located in Yilan, this bubble tea cultural & creative house offers a super popular item—the “light bulb bubble tea.” Even during its trial operation phase, it became a viral hit online. Moreover, only 80 light bulb bubble teas are available per day, and you won’t get one without making a phone reservation in advance. However, all set meals come with a complimentary light bulb bubble tea, or you can order it separately for NT$88. Unfortunately, the light bulb cups are only for on-site use and cannot be taken away. During the Lunar New Year period, Qili Bay Bubble Tea Cultural & Creative House also launched a promotion: diners who enjoy dinner between 2/6 and 2/14 will receive a free light bulb cup.

Hualien – OOTO Cafe 【Hualien Bo’ai Branch】
OOTO Cafe in Hualien City also offers an “Edison Bubble Tea,” which is the currently popular light bulb drink. However, it’s for in-store use only—the light bulb bottle cannot be taken away. The shop explained that the inspiration for Edison Bubble Tea came from Edison’s invention of the light bulb, and one of his famous quotes, “Wonder is the seed of science.” Hence, the light bulb is likened to the human brain, and the pearls represent those moments of sudden inspiration—just like many of Edison’s inventions, which often came from everyday needs or flashes of insight.

Besides Hualien’s OOTO Cafe, other shops will also roll out similar drinks, including QBee Forest, OOTO Cafe Wufeng Shuren Branch, Taichung World Trade Center, Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital Branch, and Changhua Zhongshan Branch. Changhua – Vitality Health Natural Cuisine HolyDetox
Changhua’s Magical Light Bulb Drink serves fresh milk with black sugar tapioca served in a glass light bulb, and the bulb can even be taken home after drinking. Since its launch, it has attracted many customers who come specially to buy it. Owner Wen Jie mentioned that orders are currently fully booked, and light bulb containers won’t be available until 3/8. However, you can still come to enjoy the fresh milk with black sugar tapioca.
