Yanshui Beehive Rockets, one of the world’s top three folk festivals, creates an electrifying spectacle as thousands of rockets are fired like a swarm of bees bursting from their hive. When the palanquin approaches a rocket tower, the shop owner removes the red cloth covering it, igniting the fuses and sparking excitement among the crowd. In an instant, rockets fly in all directions, delivering an intense adrenaline rush.

(Photo credit: Tainan City Government Fire Bureau)The Tainan City Fire Bureau advises that visitors must be fully prepared before experiencing the Beehive Rockets.Wear a full-face safety helmet, a high-neck, long-sleeved thick cotton shirt with the hem tucked into your pants (avoid button-up shirts), wrap a scarf around your neck to prevent rockets from entering through gaps, put on thick cotton gloves, wear high-waisted, thick cotton pants, thick cotton socks, high-top, thick-soled safety shoes, and a mask. The golden rule: cover your entire body tightly, leaving no skin exposed.
