Taichung’s “Chinese Medicine Shop”-Style Crispy Chicken Joint Serves Fried Glutinous Rice Balls Too!

Taichung Snacks & Street Food: Hongjia Huichuntang Crispy Fried Chicken

I got triggered in a social group—this place, “Hongjia Huichuntang Crispy Fried Chicken,” has such a hilarious exterior; it literally looks like a traditional Chinese medicine shop. Actually, someone had promised to come with me but flaked out, which left me pretty annoyed. That day, since I was having dinner nearby, I decided to swing by “Hongjia Huichuntang Crispy Fried Chicken” on my way back...

I originally thought this was the original branch of “Hongjia Huichuntang Crispy Fried Chicken,” but later found out the main store is at Xiangshang Market. This one is a franchise... But because the decoration of this branch on Huilai Road is so amusing, it’s actually this one that left an impression on me...

The menu is also designed very uniquely, and there’s free delivery for orders over NT$300... (Boss~ do you deliver to Beitun? XD) Whenever I see menus like this, I get a weird compulsion to fill everything in—who asked you to let me order anyway!?

There aren’t many items on the counter, but it seems some things aren’t displayed, so ordering from the menu is more accurate.

Such a small shop, but really thoughtfully designed—do you see Xiaomei?

If you don’t know what to order, there are suggested items on the wall... The fonts are so cute—I’m really envious of people who can do POP writing...

Two young hot girls, one handles prep, the other does the frying, and they even go through a de-oiling process before serving. This is seriously awesome—they care about healthiness even with fried food...

It didn’t take long before the food was ready... And it came in a paper bag!! So classy!! Now no one will know I’m having late-night snacks—they’ll think I just went clothes shopping.

Don’t ask how much I paid—I usually forget the moment I hand over the money... (My brain capacity is probably smaller than a sparrow’s, and my memory shorter than a goldfish’s...)

Once I got home, I quickly emptied it out...

It was my first time trying fried glutinous rice balls—how ingenious, these are a favorite of mine and Little Cherry’s...

The tofu skin is delicious, you should definitely order this...

The batter on the tofu has softened, so it’s recommended to eat this straight in the car after buying it, to preserve the texture... Overall, “Hongjia Huichuntang Crispy Fried Chicken” doesn’t taste all that different from other crispy fried chicken shops, but because of the de-oiling process, it feels a lot safer to eat... And just the look of this place makes it worth taking photos for the 'gram.
